I was behind an 01 Olds Aurora today and couldent help but notice that the rear looks a TAD like the new RL, am I goin crazy?? or are they kinda similar?

nah , if you get a chance take a look at the new Jetta ( i think - may be passat ) ! The lines on the car are almost identical except the wheel wells . I'll try to find a pic

 

I know what you mean the new Jettas headlights look like they were ripped off the RL

I don't see it at all...

Look on the backs of the Hyundai Tiburon, Scion tC, Saturn Ion coupe, Pontiac G6 - they all have similar designs to the RL's rear, which is generic at best.

it definitely has the same lines. both cars also resemble the Mercedes SLR's taillights....

 

Similar lines, but the RL looks much more refined and polished...

 

I think a bunch of cars look the same from behind now because all of the car manufacturers use a variation of a wedge shape on the tail lights. This lends itself to simalar trunk lines as well.

Take the CL for instance. I know you hate to admit it (I sure do) but look at the Ford Taurus rear end and see the similarities.

 

I actually think the back of the CL looks like a newer neon....one of the reasons i went with a TL. but dont get me wrong i still love the cl

 

I dont see much similarity aside from the fact they both have tailights in the corner that have a slanted look to them. Oh and they both have dual exhausts.

Basically it seems like any cars that use the same taillight design could be compared by people out there.
