Post New BAR Honda 007

I know this should be in the Motorsports section, but since we are all Honda peeps here. This is our team for this year: From www.barf1.com

As you remember, HONDA gave FERRARI a run for their money last year. Lets just hope they can beat them outright this year.

does the "look left" graphics on the wing and the intake have any significant to it?

Interesting. Aside from the obvious increase in front wing area under the nose, the rear wings looks much lower than before, and has those notches removed at the back. I assume to reduce vortex drag.

I'm wonder whether some the carbon-fiber parts are made by Look, which also makes carbon-fiber bike parts.

3.0 Liter V10(90 Degree V-Angle) Naturally Aspirated. Over 900 hps with rev limit of about 18500rpm. I've just seen one (as well as the machine itself...BAR006) at the Honda Headquarter in Tokyo and it is awesome . V10 is VERY compact and it looked as though it's smaller than TL's 3.2 Liter V6 engine.

You could say that. I think it all depends on where they are running the machine at. For example, they could tune the engine to have a higher output at Indy, and later tune it to have less output at Suzuka to concentrate on manoeuvrbility. But their official Spec is "over 900hp".

Here's hoping that there is any manufacturer that can take on Ferrari. Their dominance is making F1 kind of boring.

Not for the 2005 season. Each car's engine will have to last two full race weekends or it's back ten spots on the grid.

Look left, look right , don't walk is simply the non tobacco livery on the car. When they can't run Lucky strike logos the teams thinks of a clever play on words. It was look alike for a few years.

A run for their money???? What F1 series did you watch... But seriously, Ferrari's domination was arguably the most complete in F1 history, 262 constructors points to BAR's 114 (2nd in the WCC), they won 15 of 18 races (8 were Ferrari 1-2s) and only Renault, Macca and Williams salvaged a win. In the end BAR needs to keep their eye on Macca, Williams and Renault chances are they will all be competing for 2nd and Williams and Macca will likely not have two bad years in a row.

I do agree if BAR had not had engine reliability problems they would have been closer to Ferrari in the WCC points but they still would not have won a single race. I am also concerned how well the team will run given the fact that David is gone, shame as he brought them out of obscurity. Plus Taku still has a race seat even though many would probably agree Ant would likely have better results, Taku is more of a racer, AD is more of a driver.

The BAR chassis does look interesting for 05 and with all the aero changes this year the cars will probably start 2-3 seconds slower a lap than 04. Interestingly, the boys from Maranello are running a F2004 chassis to start the year, just changing the aero package, which may prove interesting since they may start at a disadvantage or jump out to a 02/04esque lead.

Just 45 more days and Albert Park will awake to the scream of 19,000 RPM and we will be treated to another round of the world's greatest motorsports series!!!

how do you assume the times will get slower?@#$ Every year the laptimes have decreased despite rules changes.

I can only assume you have no idea what the rule changes are for this year?@#$

It isn't really an assumption it is closer to a fact, the rules were designed to reduce downforce by about 25%. If you give a glance at the 007 you will see that the front wing is positioned quite differently from last year and the rear wing is also placed differently and significantly smaller.

To give an example, the most recent test day had MS on the track in a F2004 the rest of the drivers were in 2005 compliant cars, his lap times were over 3 seconds quicker than the next fastest driver.

The bottom line the rule changes are far more drastic than in recent years. Plus if you look at F1 times over more than the most recent years there have been several times when rule changes made significant lap time increases, the blanket "every year" statement is far from accurate.
