Real world nitrous experience

Please chime in if you have used nitrous in the past.

have you ever blown a motor or done damage to a motor while using nitrous?

What other parts are needed in order to have a theoretically safe nitrous system?

Would you say it was worth having?

What would you have done differently?

Please dont participate if you have never had nitrous. it seems like every thread abotu nitrous turns out to be he-said-she-said.

thanks

I'm not gonna chime in since I'm far from a nitrous expert but at the comments

I am interested in nitrous though.... the LS1 takes Nitrous very well. But that's apples and oranges. Hopefully there's someone that can help

I've only been spraying for a couple months.Started with a 65 shot, now I'm at 100 shot.It makes a huge differance.I have'nt had anything break yet.I know it's not good to go too high on the shot without upgrading fuel support, and retarding timming. Also you dont want to hit the rev limiter and activate the fuel cut off while spraying ,thats really bad.But no bad storys yet.I could tell some cool one s thou.

I would go with the WOT. I have never had a bad experience but my only experience was on an LT1.

I've never seen a car with the actual nitrous system.

Whatever, F&F FTW

Mine is a zex dry shot kit.And its hook to the tps switch.I think it beter to me.Only thing that sucks is I dont have a remote bottle opener yet.So I have to pop the trunk and manualy turn it on.I usually turn it on in the drive way and just play around with people from light to light like 1st threw 3rd .Nothing crazy I'm not a street racer.I have a 2nd gen cl and before it would spin a little tire and grab 2nd,now it can burn 1st and 5-10 feet of 2nd no problem.also at about 20 I can hit the gas and light the tires easy, that would never happened before.I know I surprised a few people with the spray.I dont see how you could get more real HP for the money. My whole setup ended up costing me less than $300.The car feels like a healty v8 when spraying now.And will make you smile from ear to ear the first few times you spray it.(PROMISE)

If I was you I would start by reading http://www.go-fast.org/z28/new_to_nitrous.html my experience is fairly limited bought a car with it installed and it would only go on WOT once armed. It was unnecessary in an LT1 RX7. It is the cheapest power in my opinion if your just looking to go fast in a straight line.

This experience with NOS was posted on the CTS-V forum tonight:

Vette Doctors 821 whp/846 lb-ft--click

I have no personal experience with NOS other than the soda.

It adds 25HP to kickstart my morning every now and then.

thats nuts.

but i think i focused on this more "Will getting rid of poast counts change how I poast? Dream on...
Currently in the rare 20,000 poast club. 21,324 and counting..."

how can you make enought money to afford a CTS-v and not know how to spell Post?

No, depending on how you look at it. Better ultimate performance? No. I love hearing the turbo spool up and the blow off valve spit in a car that originally wasn't available with a turbo. But to do it right, a turbo setup is a hell of a lot more expensive than a nitrous setup.

not in the long, long run. you would have to end up refilling your bottle so many times that it eventually surpasses the cost of your turbo.

$5000+ to get a good running turbo set-up. plus if anyone has ever owned a turbo car all I can say is SH*T BREAKS

450+ for a nos kit i fill up about 5-6 times a summer and about 2-3 in the winter But I alway keep my bottle half full so the fill up is $24

lets just say you fill -up 10 times(about 70-80 1/4 pulls )a year thats $500 a year
it will take 9 years to come to the price of a turbo-kit
I think by then I would be driving another car in which a will move the kit too. (cant do that with turbo)

Have you ever blown a motor or done damage to a motor while using nitrous? - I didnt have any problems with Nitrous on my 99 4cyl Accord 5spd. I had Zex Dry Kit, sprayed 75shot. Nitrous engaged at WOT.

What other parts are needed in order to have a theoretically safe nitrous system? - I didnt have anything special. Make sure your spark plus are 2 steps colders..

Would you say it was worth having? - Umm... it drains money when you have to refill ur bottle overtime. But I thought it was worth having.. Bragging rights.. haha

What would you have done differently? - Saved up for a turbo...

I had a dry Zex kit on my auto CL-S.

best 1/4 without was 14.1 @ 99

best with was 13.2 @ 106

pretty good bang for the buck I would say, although not really ideal for everyday use.

at the last West Coast Acura meet we had I pulled on all 4 S/C cars I raced. 1 auto, 1 HBP auto, 1 6MT w/ HBP and a S/C & aftercooled S2K. My car was at the pinnacle of it's existence that weekend. Ahhh memories.

How does the nitrous work with the ecu? Do you have to do anything to it or do you just install the kit and you're set?
