Radar detectors

Can some school me on radar detectors. How do they work? What sound or image do they make and how far in advance do they alert you? Also, what kind do you guys recommend? Thanks.

best on the market, is the Valentine 1, Ecort 8500x50, and the Bel RX65(ithink)

the bell and esort are basically the same thing since they are owned by the same company. all of them is very good. i did alot of research on radar detectors a couple weeks ago because i was in the amrket to get one. and the one i chose was the escort. it is pretty damn good in my opinion just sometimes it is late to resond and goes full alert. or i'll go by a cop and nothing. also the possibility of that is he deons't have his radar gun on or is using laser and hasn't tagged me.

i say get the escort

I have the Valentine V1 and it may be pricey but it is by far the best radar detector (I've seen the others in use and personally think V1 is the best). Anyway, with the V1 it has 4 arrows, pointing North South East and West and also has 4 types of detection L (Laser), Ka (Cop using radar), X (not positive but usually not cop) and same with K.

The detector beeps and lights up the direction the dectection is coming from and also what type of radar is being picked up. It depends on where you are, if you're on a straight highway I'd say it can pick it up a mile in front, but around local roads maybe a few hundred yards, depending on where the radar is coming from. Like the others said, they still tend to keep the radar off then clock you right as you go by in which case you're screwed.

Does it detect all of these at the same time or do you have to switch between the four?
