Raced a C5 Z06 Today - Quick Read
I was in my 2005 S2k and we were in the first row at a red traffic light.
I had a full car length on him until he realized we were racing.
I finished 2nd.
The Z06 sounded awesome.

I just got a ride in a Z06 tonight. Man, those things are stupidly FAST. Starting out in second and just seeing that needle sweep past 100 through the gears was unreal. I felt a little bit worse about my Cl
I have a next door neighbor who has spent the last 3 1/2 years building a Factory Five replica of the 1966 427 Shelby AC Cobra. He finished it this past summer and got it street legal. The work he did was absolutely pristine.. show car quality.
It's actually pretty mild engine wise. He has an engine he ordered from a builder in Pennsylvania. It's a small block Ford (of course.. would be a sin to use anything else in a "Cobra"), bored and stroked to 331 cubes. AFR aluminum heads, 1.7 rockers, a Comp roller cam, pretty wild after-market intake, and, of course, the obligatory headers-into-side-pipes. He's running 3.73's out back through a Thunderbird IRS and a 5-speed manual tranny.
The engine is set up for just over 400 horsepower, not at all as wild as a few of the other Cobras that come by to visit frequently (one of those is dynoed at over 450 horsepower at the rear wheels). But the kicker is the car only weighs 2200 pounds!
He took me for a ride in it a few weeks ago and cracked it in second and third gear to around 1/2 throttle. I would have to be in it at full throttle to give a true and fair assessment, but I would say with what I felt that it is at least the second quickest car I've ever been in. But I would have to see full throttle to really tell. The rate of acceleration was not like most every other car you would ride in. This is the one thing that the mid-60's supercars had that most cars today do not. Large amounts of torque. Now my neighbor's car, being a small block, doesn't have the cubes to generate large torque figures - it's not a blown engine. But it makes up for this with such light weight. So the rate of acceleration does not feel very linear, like it's climbing such as in our TL's, but rather a constant directly related to the amount of throttle opening.

Thanks neuron.
It is rare for people to be honest when we have a little race on the street.
Regardless, I still love my car!

Thanks knight rider. I agree.
For those that are unsure, I did not expect to compete in this showdown. The story, while accurate, was shared with everyone for some comic relief.

Who cares about hp/liter. It's all about who's ahead. Maybe if the NSX has a V10.....
did you expect to win?
