Question about speeding bikes and cops..
whats the deal with cops giving chase to a bike thats speeding? I've seen quite a few instances where a bike has basically flew past a cop, and the cop didnt do anything. However, i have heard that State Troopers will give chase. Anybody know what the 'protocol' is? What about if theres a pack of bikes, and all of them are speeding? It just seems to me that chasing down a sportbike might seem fruitless, they get up and go so fast, maybe thats why some dont even bother. Anybody wanna shed some light on the subject?

depends on where you are but in some states/areas cops cannot give chase to vehicles that are a certain speed over the limit. So like if a bike flies past at 150mph then the cop cannot take off after him. Like you said, it is too dangerous for them to even try. Although you can be almost guaranteed that there will be a radio call informing all other officers in the area to keep lookout for him.

on to the next one...
My ex's Dad was a local cop and his view on that was "If they want to speed, let em speed, they'll only hurt themselves out there." Many other locals share that same view it seems.
But I have seen troopers pull over a whole pack more than once. I think it's an unspoken rule in most bike groups, if you are chased, everyone pulls over. If you don' t, the others would get pretty pissed.
But I don't ride, so I don't know for sure.

Maybe we are just too law abiding here in MN!

yeah, we usually split up and meet somewhere later. but most of the time, they dont even bother. I even know a few cops that said they just watch us go by and wait to hear about a crash on the radio later
one time a cop did give chase and we all hit it. well over a hundred mph. we flew by 3 other cops while on the run.:P

I have ridden with people that split - but that is usually if you are street racing or really out screwing around for example people that ride 9-turns in Ft. Laud out where 595 meets 95 etc. Otherwise, typically everyone stops. Besides you can't out run a radio or copter.
