Portable jumper pack

Any particular ones you guys would recommend?

We go off-roading and sometimes share equipment among multiple people. Some of them have V8 trucks/SUVs and we sometimes hit extremes in temperatures... we are going to death valley soon.

Being multi-functional (flashlight, power bank, etc.) is a plus, but not necessary. Being able to fit in a glovebox is a yuuuge plus, but not mandatory either.

I ran through some battery packs I saw on amazon with a bunch of reviews through fakespot.com and not all of them look legit.

I have the Noco Genius Boost plus: https://www.amazon.com/NOCO-GB40-Ult...ds=noco+genius
I bought it when I had battery issues in my TL bc I went w/ a smaller battery bc I installed a SC. My smaller battery couldn't run my car & all my accessories. The portable battery pack jumped by car multiple times without me having to recharge the portable battery, you can probably get 4-6 good jumps in before having to start recharging it. It has a USB attachment for accessories, but I believe it only has 1 USB charging output. The light is not bright, but it's helpful for when you gotta jump a battery at night under the hood. The only thing I don't like about it is that the only way you can charge the portable battery is by USB cord that comes w/ it; granted its great for when you're on the road you can charge your battery VIA cigarette lighter, but I'd rather charge it faster VIA plug on the wall.

This one isn't that cheap but I swear by it 100%. https://www.amazon.com/Booster-ES500...ords=jump+pack

I know two friends shops that also use this exact brand. I have had mine for almost 10 years now and have used it many many times and it still works just fine. I have seen people try and jump cars with other cheaper packs that are fully charged according to their indicator and it won't start. I can pull mine out with half a charge and it starts right up. In thta 10 years It will only hold 3 of the 4 lights of charge after being off the charger for a week in my car but those last 3 bars will hold for months and months. I usually try and top it off every month though. When it ever dies I will replace with the same one. When I was having battery issues with the TSX I used it once to jump the car 30 times between charges with no issue and it didn't even drop below half.

Well hmmm it says the Genius Boost only can do up to 6 liter engines. Does that mean it can't help my 6.2 liter engine?

Get the 4000 amp version, it is good for over 10+ liter cars.

Which amp version did you get? @Duronn

I'm leaning towards getting the Genius Boost since the smaller form factor is better for my tiny car, and something bigger for my gf's FJ.

Ironically, I've bought mine from Costco several times. After a year or two, it stops working as well, so i go back, return, get another.

Most jump packs ive gotten have been that way, so this works out well. Free replacement lol

You should be fine. I've got the 1000 amp unit. It handles my hot rod fine (6.6L), that said it'll only 2-3 shots without a fresh charge on that thing. Have used it multiple times on the '55, porsche, 7 series, etc.

I'm also considering a portable jump starter, and I found this article from Consumer Reports:

I have not tested my unit at 0F but it has worked just fine when I bought it in from the outside in subfreezing temps to power my tablet and recharge my cell phone

Holy shit it goes from being $100 though to almost $300. I was considering upgrading my pack since that one is so small but damn I will stick with my large ass one if the one I need to jump my car is that expensive.

Good to hear. How long does it seem to hold a charge though? Can I charge it up and then leave it in the car for a year without having to top it off if I don't use it? That would be nice to just throw it in the the storage bin in the trunk and not need to really top it off at all and just have it for an emergency.

Sorry, haven't kept up w/ this thread for awhile. I have the 1000 amp unit. I'm really not sure how long you can go w/o charging it if your just storing it. I can tell you I went a few months w/o charging it & I was still able to jump 2 vehicles. I love it.
