Passed 600 Miles in the S2k Tonight
Hello fellow S2k'ers and Acura people.
Well, according to the book, I am now out of the break-in period. What should I do next?
I have managed 2.5 months (hold the flames) without exceeding 5000'ish RPM's.
Do I floor it tomorrow and go all out, or do I show some patience and wait until I hit 1000 miles?
I remember on my test drive, with the car I did not buy, how that thing felt after hitting 6000'ish RPM's and it was bliss.
Thoughts?

I've been driving mine hard as hell every day since 600 miles and no problems yet. I have 42k right now. These cars were made to be driven...just do it!

Nice! Sounds like this weekend will be the one that breaks the 6000RPM barrier!

how do you guys hold back like that?
i only made it to 200 miles without hitting hard on the Z.. i started shooting the damn revs up to 6000 when i was at around 250 miles? then i was up to past 7k-ish by 400+ miles. damn

iamhomin, who went past 8k today.

This whole issue is bizarre to me. I cannot figure out my problem.
I have passed 6k many times, but am yet to open those extra valves. I remember the rush of the test drive, but have yet to do it to my own car. I will hit 1000 miles tomorrow. That may have to be my celebration.
I feel like giving myself negative rep points for being a wuss.

Well..... I did it tonight! Actually, four times in first and once in second. That thing is soooo fast when you hit about 6200ish. It almost feels like a turbo of sorts.
I kept the RPMs up tonight teaching a new Mustang GT a lesson. My heart is still racing. What an awesome car. My first three tanks of gas averaged almost 29 MPG. I have a feeling my 4th will be about 2.9MPG. Woo hoo!
Everyone should experience this feeling. In the VTEC range, this car pulls like it has twice the listed torque.
May the flames or congratulations begin!
PS - Go test drive the S2000!

I wouldnt be taking advice from that guy
You can floor it now if you want. The piston rings have settled in. If it were me, I'd gradually start uping the rpms to 1000 miles and then let it all out. But dont take another 3 months to do it!

So much for your gas mileage for the rest of the life of the car
BTW...VTEC engages at 6k

Now, aside from the temptation, there is no where to drive the car at the speeds needed to maintain VTEC.
The car went from a lot of fun, to more fun than I ever imagined.
BTW, the handling in this car is incredible, too! Fortunately, I am not breaking any laws taking 90 degree turns at speeds much greater than 20MPH!

I see you live in Tennessee. Have you heard of the "Dragon". It's US129 that runs from TN into NC. It has over 300 curves in 11 miles of road. Search s2ki.com to find more info about it. There's a huge event called "Wake the Dragon" every year and there's a bunch of s2k'ers that go. Perhaps some of us AZ guys should attend

Everything I read says the police are pretty bad on that road, but I plan to attend the next meet. TLers should be there, too!
