Angry Oil Changes

I need to start changing my own oil. Dealer clipped me for $73.00 for a Havoline Synthectic 10-30 Oil change.

That seems expensive...am I wrong???

That sounds about right from other dealerships I've seen in Florida.

Keep in mind I go to Walmart and bought 5 qts of Mobil 1 Fully Synthetic for $19.94 (before tax) on sale. Normally its like $21.xx, but still fairly cheap. The mobil one filters cost $9.xx and those are usually the most expensive. After all this I've just cracked the $30 limit.

My advice, if possible, make a friend who is a manager at a local tire/oil place and have them change your oil w/ the synthetic you purchase @ discounted price.

My local walmart doesnt carry Mobil 1 for $20 anymore. They charge much more now so I dont bother.

Anywho, just buy an oil extractor and you be good to go.

Don't they require a special tool to take out the oil filter?

Im not sure how different the speed is from the normal 5, but my friend's Mazda 5 is a giant pain in the ass to change the oil. They use some kind of dealer only filter or something.

$25 Oil
$5 Filter

Knowing for a fact theres actually Mobil-1 in your car - Priceless.

Oh yeah, I've seen that filter. I'm certain that Penzoil makes a filter for the Mazda6 4cyl (since that the one I helped change), incase you don't want to go to the dealership. I just checked and Penzoil has a filter for the Mazdaspeed6 as well.

I get my oil changes done at my friends work for free, since hes the manager, so sometimes I help him out when they are short changed on staff.

Jesal, when was the last time you went and looked. About 6 months ago the prices went up to around $27 here for a 5 quart Mobil 1 synthetic bottle. I went last week and they were back down to 20.57.

Most dealers out here want to charge me 80-90 for a synthetic change. I bring them my oil from walmart ($27 for 7 quarts) and they just charge me for labor (around $9)

I'd rather spend the $ & have someone else do it. Oil changes I have never been good at doing without a lift. Many spills & soaked cloths, many rants & curses. Too stressful!

3 Acura dealers have signs all over that they will not use a customers oil. Acura oil only from the dealer. It's getting more common down here with all car dealers.

i'd be pissed if they wouldn't let me use my own oil

doing the GTO is a bitch w/o a lift (and i'm lazy). You gotta remove the skid plate which is annoying...i'd rather pay someone $10 to do it.

I did mine a couple times with one of those Oil Extractors. But then I just didn't have the time too anymore. I buy the oil and filter and drop it off. It cost me $10 to have it changed and the rest of the fluids topped off.

No, you can loosen by hand, then put back by hand. unless its a bmw or benz then you need a socket to remove it.

Havent gone in a year or so actually. A local guy was sponsored by Valvoline and had about 6 cases of oil. I bought it off him for cheap, i think $40...

Been living off that stash since. But will check out Walmart again and stock up.

Takes more time to drop the car off than to use the extractor.

Stupid E92 doesnt even have a dip stick for me to even use it anymore. Ahh well.
