If J is taking that picture of the car, who's in the car banging his GF?
Team Owner
Do you not know J at all? He set the camera up outside and used a remote to take the picture. He knew what was gonna go down. That sly bastard.

After meeting Dave in person in 2012 or whenever it was every time we'd mention my ex wife he'd be like "mmmm...Betty"...
Yeah, little J is definitely a gorgeous girl.
Funny short story, so about 2 months ago we took a drive up to St Augustine to get away a bit in the S2000. At some random off the beaten path park I jump out of it and tell her to go for it, drive the car...mind you, she's never driven manual before. Well, she did really well...enough to then drive it on the beach in Daytona. She took direction very well and made adjustments when I suggested it. We weren't quite ready for open road so we left it at that. Tried again with the Audi A3 and she stalled out repeatedly in front of the house...she didn't like how vague the engagement point was in comparison to the S2000.
Soooo, yesterday she was about to head out to do something with her best friend...she texts me a picture of herself with the S2000 behind her with 'thanks for the car, babe"...I was like "sure thing, go for it". I thought there ain't no way she's actually going to. So she calls me a half hour later saying she is freaking out because she's on our local busy road and catching every light and people are honking and she keeps stalling and she smells burning. I'm like...haha...sure thing (thinking she's pulling my chain)....then I hear the engine revving up as she pulls away. My heart sinks...I'm like well, did encourage her...I said fuck it, she's already out there she might as well go for it. Well, after a few hours and some texts asking me where the gas door release is...she calls me and tells me she went all the way to Hollywood beach and made it home safely. I'm like wow...so proud of her. Big accomplishment to tackle and she did it...I think the car survived, still in one piece. My thinking was, she is so good to me and my daughter that what's a new clutch and or starter for her to have a fun experience with her friend and conquer a fear.
She ended up telling me "I know you love me, babe but I think you overestimate my abilities sometimes"... I'm like, well...nobody has ever gotten worse at something by practicing and I literally didn't know how to drive stick right up until the moment where I DID know how. She said when she was on the phone with me a few times she realized she didn't have to think about what she was doing and it felt like it came naturally. Now she's like, fuckkkk...my van is boring, automatic is borinnnggggg...

sometimes with learning a stick shift... it is best to just get out there into the deep end... that's where you learn the most when you are under pressure and you have no choice but to get the car moving... i had the same experience when i REALLY learned how to drive stick... empty parking lots and empty streets are different... my buddy took me out in his car and we went deep into Manhattan and i drove... i got to feel the pain of traffic and a numb left foot... but it taught me well...
like you said, it's just a car... it's just a clutch and it can be replaced... she can't replace the laughs she had with her best mate... and i'm sure they both had plenty of guys looking over at the two hotties in the S...
you are a saint J... good man, good father, good human... don't change a damn thing...

Yeah, well, her best friend is her gay guy friend...but yeah definitely, she said on her way home after dropping him off she had a few guys pull up and rev and look over at her like whoah...hot chick in a cool modded car. I've seen it myself when she borrows the Vagon...I see her rolling up and I'm like damnnnn that's even though it's my car. I guess technically she could say the same thing about it being HER house. Okay OUR things then...
Anyway...dude, the ONLY place I've ever been like WHAT THE FUCK driving is Manhattan...I'm like fuck this shit, I'd get a bus pass!
Ex-OEM King
Nice dude! Soon she'll be heel toeing downshifts and rev matching all day long.
Now can you convince my wife to learn manual as well?

Well another big motivator for her is she REALLY wants a jeep and I already told her that if we do, it WILL be manual.

who knows, Jason!
If it came down to just one fun weekend car that can be convertible, a Jeep might be more useful for our offroad Florida adventures.
Thanks fellas...yeah, I know...new year, new me.

Also, if you ever plan on offroading in it, the auto is much better.
Completely agree on the daily convertible front, I'm seriously thinking about selling my S2000 for a Wrangler Rubicon after this summer is over.

Really?
I have...I drove a Wrangler older one in Switzerland once...it definitely had a tractor feel but for a weekend rock crawler and sand kicker I thought it would feel more fun.
I guess I'll have to reconsider!

Yah like other say, the fastest way to learn stick is to throw her into the fire.
I taught my ex to drive stick within 2 days because i forced her to sell her automatic car prior to getting the stick, so she had no choice but to drive it to work
Now teaching heel and toe was a different story.....We almost crashed in the corner.
But anyways she sounds like she is a keeper!

Nice, trying to teach my gf is a struggle. I removed the assist spring on my BRZ, so its kinda heavy. The woman is tiny so her leg starts trembling after just a little bit of traffic.
Now I have a DD at least and I can take my car out more. Wouldn't trust her in hilly, stop and go traffic yet. I keep encouraging her and just like you guys, telling her that the best way to learn is just more seat time, but she's scared of doing it.
She was kind of reckless when she was younger (waaay before she met me) and had only driven powerful RWD cars before me so I wasn't too worried.

Take her to the gym first. Have her build up some massive leg muscles. Then teach her to drive stick! :gold cup:

Sometimes...
Yeah, she was like...well, the bridge was up by the beach and the car was gonna roll into the car behind me and I wasn't sure
how to do it so I used my foot to hold the brake and also give it gas while releasing the clutch...I was like, well...that'll definitely work, or the ebrake...until you learn engagement point.
Shittt...her telling me that she thought to do it that way on her own my actually get me to the engagement point faster.
