You should do it! I love it. I think they should have done it that way from the factory.

Hey, SuperTrooper, where did you get your black headlight thingys? From the dealer? I really want to do the same thing to my accord.

Ebay. They're called DEPO Blackhoused headlights. They're basically just copies of the OEM headlights but blacked out. If you have an extra set you can do it yourself, but I didn't, that's why I bought new ones already done.

I have a few questions.
1. Were you able to get the steering wheel controls to work?
2. Could you have flush mounted the center speaker or was there no room?
3. Any real difference in sound quality (normal stereo vs 5ch SACD)
4. Will that receiver matrix a 2ch source into 5ch surround?

Sorry, I am an audio geek (home audio) and the lack of SACD'd and DVD-A have always left me wondering whether this is worth it, but this new Sony seems pretty inexpensive. If it can convert a 2ch CD to surround (and well) I just may have to snag one...

Thanks!

I think they were about $200 shipped, but I can't remember the exact price I paid. They install just like the OEM headlights with some very minor adjusting as is the case with most non-OEM parts, but on a scale of 1 to 10 I'd say a 4. I'm probably going to eventually do a retrofit on my OEMs so I might be putting these up for sale, but I don't know when I'll get around to it so I wouldn't keep ya waiting.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. The headunit is a Sony MEX-DV2000, but they have another newer version called the MEX-DV2200. I don't know what the difference is besides the desiplay is slightly better on the newer version.

I love this headunit now. To answer your questions:

1.) I did not buy the PAC unit to get the steering wheel controls to work yet. It's on my list, as I have e-mailed the PAC people to see if it would work, and they have not gotten back to me. Horrible customer service if you ask me. I could get the rotary commander if I wanted to, but like you, I want functional steering wheel controls. I plan on doing this mod later if the PAC unit works.

2.)I'm not sure about the flush-mounted speakers. It would have required a lot more cutting and installation of a wooden support structure underneath to mount a flush-mounted speaker. If you take off your center console, you can see all the plastic that needs to be Dremeled. I spend about one hour Dremeling the plastic with drums, which melted part of it, because I did not have cutting discs. If I had them, it might have taken 10 minutes to do.

The speaker is mounted directly to the plastic, with no foam or anything like that underneath. If I really wanted to go all out, I would have added fiberglass and bondo, and sanded, primed, and painted that plastic part running from the radio to the windshield. I'm very happy with what came out though, because I think it sounds great. A friend who has an 08 TL-S mentioned that it sounded better than his car.

3.) There is a huge difference. HUGE. There seemed to me to be a "hole" in the music right above the radio with the stock system. I can't explain it without talking about the TL. The TL seemed to fill that hole with the center channel speaker.

To be honest, I did not get the highest quality speakers. I did not care. I'm not an audiophile by any stretch of the imagination, but I just wanted clear sound. I think I got that now. I got my center speakers (5.25") at Wal-Mart, along with an "add-an-amp" kit and amplifier. The amp (which has it's own fan), was rated at 200 watts I think, nothing crazy. The amp, speakers, and kit cost me about $100. I already had an amp under the driver's-side seat to connect the other amp, so that was easy. The sub was already installed.

I already had the center dash kit to install the DVD or MP3 player. If you don't have either of those, you'll have to spend some money to buy them, unfortunately.

The Sony MEX-DV2000 has Dolby Prologic II, which matrixes 2-channel stereo sources into 5.1 surround sound. Like I said, I effing LOVE it. That "hole" in the music is filled right above the radio that seems to be missing. The Sony unit has a pre-out for a sub and center channel, so once I hooked up the center-channel amplifier, I connected the pre-out to the amp, and it was good to go. I had to play around with the center channel settings for a little bit, but now I love it.

4.) As mentioned above, it can decode two-channel stereo sources into 5.1 surround sound. It's called Dolby Pro-Logic II. I love it.

I have not tried SACD yet, because I can only find them on Amazon, but once I buy one, it should blow my mind.

This is not even mentioning DVDs that it can play on my navigation screen (through the use of a converter). "Enemy at the Gate" sounds AWESOME.

Hmm... please tell me more! I've always wanted to find a way to do this. Is there a converter readily available? Is it a PITA to install?

BTW, I'm sure the sound with the 5.1 is incredible!

www.avelectronic.com is the unit I used. It's a bit pricey. I got mine in 2004 for about $400. There is also in the regular TSX, MDX, and TL sections, Dom's TVNAV2GO unit, which is significantly cheaper, but lacks audio inputs. Search on other parts of Acurazine for it.

You can also do a quick search through e-bay. Search using "navigation converter" or something along those lines.

Nope, not an S2000 knob, it's a stock Accord 6-speed knob. I'm probably going to hang onto it but if I change my mind I'll shoot ya a PM.

I actually don't need it any more because the Sony MEX-DV2000 plays DVDs. It's a Valor DVD player. It's a 1/2 DIN DVD player. eBay has them going for $160-$180. I've only used this a handful of times.

Didn't know this thread existed. I don't do much with the car anymore. I was just dating my wife when I got it back in 1/00. Now we're married with 2 kids that are 3 and 1. My original baby don't look the same but still running.

This was the first time my car was in Super Street.

EDIT: Uh oh. The site that cannot be named is mentioned.

Sweet looking ride. The 6G is still my favorite style of Accord coupe.

I hear that. Honestly, my old 99 Accord LX sedan is a more comfortable car than my current 07 AV6 EX-L sedan. While my current Accord has all the bells and whistles (stock), the 6G just felt better overall.....and that was a fairly spartan model.

If I had my choice, I'd love to have an 01-02ish AV6 if it had the J32A2 6MT powertrain; I'd then happily upgrade the suspension, wheel pkg and exchange the stock HU for a Pioneer AVIC unit.

very nice ,

doom glad to see you here man,

but sadly I had to sell my TL-S rims due to money problems, I also had my 04 TSX rims in my garage so I just mounted them back on. The TSX rims def have a more sport theme to them, but I miss my TL-S rims.

You too LX. I got rid of mine because the tires were done. I didn't have the $ for new tires plus the car was 10x slower with those rims as they weighed a ton.

Just completely debadged my rear besides the "H" badge because of the holes it would leave. I might attempt to do a black-chrome treatment on it next weekend though.

nice pickup on the CF shift knob, looks nice, SuperTrooper. So i see you decided to get rid of the V6 badge...it would be an interesting surprise for anyone who decided to race you because they think you're a 4cylinder

still loving your accord, jimiboi. Have you thought about an OEM lip kit?

Thanks! I love the CF shift knob. It' super comfortable and nicely weighted. No more burning hot metal knob FTW!!!

I took the badge off mostly for aesthetics, but yeah, I guess someone might think I was an I4 with dual exhaust, well, if they we deaf lol.

RonJon Legend Type II wheels and RonJon Coupe ABS Lip kit.

Photos are completely unedited, and the car is at stock height, no drop.

Similar styled wheels to the 6G Maxima but it works well with the 7G Accord Coupe.

You really hit it out of the ball park with your 8th gen body kit, Ron. If I had one I'd be all over it. If it had a slight drop it would be perfect!
