Some of you know my love of the Ford bigblock FE because of it's racing heritage. I can't wait to here the whump of the FE in the Marauder when it runs for the first time. Anyway, here is a video of a 1964 Ford Fairlane with a 427 FE running at the Nurburgring. I can't get over the sound.

Fabulous! I loved it. During the mid-60's supercar wars, the best sounding factory exhaust system, in my opinion, was not a supercar at all. It was the '65 396 and the '66 and '67 427 Corvette with the optional side pipes. Incredible sound and that was what I ordered on the '66 427 L74 Corvette I never got. When this exhaust was ordered, there were no mufflers. Instead, Chevrolet used what they called a "chambered exhaust (pipe)". These looked like a section of exhaust pipe that had been dented or scolloped at offseting angles down the length of the pipe. The sound was fantastic.

The next really exciting sound was a solid lifter cam with headers. This was especially good on small block Chevys and Fords because there was less metal in the short block to deaden the sound. And a good cam had a nice lopey idle to boot.

Caparo T1, this car is freaking fast, I wonder if Top Gear told the truth and if this is really street legal. That jag sliding through the corner in one part of the clip is a nice touch.

 

I love the thundering, ground pounding idle of a big lopey V8 too.... he starts revving it around 3:00. Pretty sure this has a chambered exhaust like SouthernBoy mentioned, and no muffles, but unfortunately it isn't a side exit. Uses the LeMans winning 427 C5R engine as a basis though.

also love the way a forced induction V8 sounds.... good god almighty. Cobra has 800+ RWHP and Camaro has 900+ RWHP. Both have twins. Skip to 1:20.
