For the 335's in general try to go with 2008 and above. More 2008's had the oil cooler stock and a different/updated oil temp guage. are you looking at a coupe or sedan? if its a sedan definitely 08, as it had a different seatbelt chime and the 08 coupes/sedans had LED license plate lights stock.

Not much else different. If you are getting an 09 sedan (e90) that was the LCI year, where they changed the exterior. 09 and above also has the newer version iDrive. There were multiple changes in 10/11 that i'm not 100% sure about for both e92's and e90's.

09+ just for the updated Idrive alone.

Vast improvement over the 07-08 models.

Diff get the 335i over the 328. The 09+ have the new I-Drive system, so I would shoot for that. Are you planning buying a coupe or a sedan? I would also opt for the 335i instead of xi. The 335i with winter tires is more than capable in the winter or just keep the TSX for a winter beater like I did.

by the way i test drove the Audi S4 today and that was def a mean machine. i need to go back to bmw and take out the 335xi and push it harder to really have a good comparison. the audi salesperson told me to floor it which was a request i was glad to oblige too haha!

somehow i felt like i would enjoy living with the 335 more though compared to the S4.

i almost wish audi made a vehicle that fit between the A4 and S4....the A4 steering felt so disconnected to me that i almost felt like i needed to get the S4 to make it drive the way i want.

+1 You can't get the sport suspension with xi, even if you get the Sport package.

as much as i would love to keep the tsx as a beater i really need to unload it. also i have a steep hill to get to where i live and would be concerned goign with Rwd car. I had a tough time getting up the hill with snowtires and my tsx!

so awd is what i want. knowing that would you guys reccomend 335xi over audi S4? Pricing seems pretty similiar. sorry for hijacking this thread, if should start a new one please let me know...

If you must go awd, I'd suggest S4.

If you MUST get the AWD, go with the S4. Personally, BMW to me is for their RWD layout. I won't go with the x-drive in the BMW, similarly I won't go with FWD in the Audi.

Agreed.

If you must get an AWD, definitely get the Quattro.

I agree, though, the 2011 335xi is .2 seconds quicker in 0-60 than the RWD 335i. Kinda interesting.

AWD gets a better launch, less time burning up the wheels

and +100 on the S4 for awd.

Audi is known Quattro, and they spend most of their time developing this, just how BMW spends more time spending money researching their RWD platforms.

Dude.. of course, AWD is faster than RWD in 0-60.

RWD should reel it in on top though.

My car needed new tires, so...

...I bought a set.

Potenza RE960AS Pole Position Runflats.

Gotten good reviews as these are based on the latest run flat technology.

I know, lots of folks here don't like them.

I didn't have the runflats. But I felt like they were definitely not worth the money. Maybe the runflats are better.

how many of you keep to runflats when its time for new tires??

I hear quite a few dont because they're much more expensive, but if people do that and something happens to their tire they're gonna be stranded...

It depends of the tire series. Sometime it is cheap; less than 100$ more for the whole set.

My OEM RFT were horrible; I got rid of them. I have to carry a wheel in my trunk which takes a serious toll on it. The new RFT improved a lot and I would consider them again.

Also I had 2 flats since January 2009, 3 in 10 years. Two times it was in an urban highway and it was hell.

I definitely see value in RFT. I just regret that BMW decided not to have a dedicated place for a spare wheel.

I got around just fine in the OEM run flats. I anticipate these will hold up even better.

yea it does suck, I noticed that in my friends BMW, its a ltl small thing under the trunk that has no room for a spare. They should have just left a place in there for it, it couldnt hurt right?

Nice to see they are keeping the M3 sedan!

edit: I'm confused as to what BMW is doing. They are gonna call the M3 coupe the M4 now? And the sedan will be the M3. I dont like that new nameplate, M4 doesnt flow as well as the M3, I hope this source is wrong. Plus with a "new" tag BMW will probably have to spend more money marketing it correctly (maybe?)

335 is going into the shop tomorrow...

Reasons:
#1 - Coolant low warning. I added water (24oz) but want to make sure there no reason the coolant got low, i.e. leak in the system.

#2 - I paid a boat load for the premium stereo with a gajillion speakers, and it works about ten seconds every hour. All of a sudden all the speakers kick in and it sounds awesome, then it stops and goes back to a 4 speaker setup and I am like "awwww..."

Of course, the techs don't "hear" what the problem is with the sound system...

Once an hour, the thing works correctly for 3 seconds and sounds awesome... The rest of the time is "Awwwww, darn".

did they tell you they couldnt find a problem??

have them compare it with a car that has the system in the dealership

your "awww darn" quotes crack me up for some reason lol

A buddy of mine is looking into a 335i. However he's looking to spend about $30k or so (haven't actually talked to him about price, just from hearsay). What year was the HPFP allegedly fixed? I was reading online that pumps manufactured after 3/10 were a new design... so to be safe you'd need a 2011+ to have the new HPFP? Or do those have issues too?

If you have a bad HPFP, the dealer will replace it with the new design free of charge. General consensus is that the new design has fixed the problem.

I'd take that over my windows and locks all of a sudden wouldn't work. Then one day, driving, the car just died.

All my pain and suffering, it was a silly bad contact in the junction box. Easy fix, nightmare to diagnose.

I feel your pain.

I guess maybe I should ask this in Audio, but if the speaker is not getting full power from the head unit, shouldn't they be able to test the voltage getting to the speaker?

This seems like the most surefire way to test this, no?

Certainly more accurate than letting the lot monkey drive my car around for two days listening to his Mariah Carey CD over and over...

Really?

I had to suggest to the service adviser that he sit in a similar car as mine with the HK stereo and put the same Sirrius channel on in both and note the difference... Isn't this what they do for a living?

Are there specific speakers that aren't working or do they all just start to suck at once? Regardless, shouldn't be that hard for them diagnose. Geniuses.

It feels like the rears, but if you recall way back when FM station were the norm and you occasionally lost stereo signal but kept the station in mono, it's the opposite of that. I feel like I have a mediocre system 99.9% of the tome, except these minute flashes of glorious heavenly sound than wraps around me like a baby's blanket. Then it stops 2 seconds later and I weep openly while driving.
