^ Yeah, as a backward facing car seat it's sucks, but once my boy turns 2 y/o I'll be able to put it forward facing and I won't have to have it in a tilted back position so it can actually fit behind my drivers seat and I won't have to move it forward at all. This is the only way I'll be able to keep the MS6 if we have another kid. The infant seat will have to go behind the passenger seat and my wife will have to be squished and uncomfortable. It's a small price to pay for my auto happiness.

Just passed 55,000 miles today on the odometer. Oil change with fresh Shell Rotella T6 5w40 and OEM Mazda oil filter, rotated the tires and shook out the air filter. Here's why I couldn't be happier for purchasing my oil catch can. Not only does it look disgusting, it smelled even worse.

I don't want to make you feel pressured to buy them lolz. I still have to swap them out which might take a while because I'm lazy lately, but if I do take them off I'll let you know first before I post them in any classfieds.

Oh, and your avatar is freaking me out. Thanks.

Sounds great and pulls nicely too.

Hows maintenance on the MS6? I'm looking at picking up a new daily during the summer and I have a few cars on my list.

Thanks man. It's been amazingly reliable (knocking on fake wood veneer desk). Now that I work from home I've been keeping the miles off but it's seriously effected the mpg since my drive each day to take my son to daycare is about a mile round trip, so I'm seeing 17-18mpg with that kind of driving, but with a normal commute I was seeing 20-22mpg and have gotten as much as 25mpg on a long highway trip.

As far as regular maintenance it's been just as reliable and low cost to operate as the Accord was. I do Shell Rotella full synth oil changes which is costly but well worth it, and some things like an oil catch can, short shift plate and an intake are must-haves.

I will say that it's much more "sensitive" to mods than the Accord was. In other words, in my case, if I uncork the exhaust with a test pipe or exhaust my turbo smokes like a chimney, which is pretty common for the K04s in the MS3/MS6s. Some experience it, some don't, but I'm fine with keeping it quiet and unsuspecting to other drivers. It's got a decent enough stock exhaust note and turbo spool that I'm not going crazy wanting an aftermarket exhaust anyway, but if I did decide to go with one I can get a rebuilt K04 off a forum for around $300, so not too nuts.

Other things to note are certain oddball characteristics of bogging down in stock form at certain RPMs, but there's a solution for it by stretching the coils in the coil packs which completely solved that issue for me. Some claim it works, some don't. Some '06s have clutch issues which was resolved in the '07 models, so I'd recommend an '07 for that reason alone.

So other than a few pesky issues that can be worked around I'd highly recommend one, but be cautious when shopping for them because a good majority of them have been modded and beat on, so look for one that's completely stock or with very few mods.

Thanks for the info! 25mpg highway is the best you've gotten? I was hoping for higher 20s, maybe even cracking 30mpg.

It's probably because he is "slightly" modded. My stock '12 MS3, basically the same engine, gets ~27mpg on my 45 mile each way commute. I could probably get better if I drove it a little softer.

Yep the mods definitely don't help, including the spark plugs which are a step colder which definitely reduce mpgs. Plus I run a heavier weight oil to keep the smoking turbo under control = decreased mpgs. Also it's a fairly heavy car, almost 3500lbs.

Rant time....

I was driving back from Mammoth Cave with my brother and his wife on Monday and as I was moving over to exit the highway to stop for food I noticed vibrations and a lot of road noise coming from my car. Pulled over in a parking lot and checked out the tires. Sure enough my passenger side rear tire was completely flat and the sidewall was folded in. Thank god I was actually planning on getting off that exit otherwise it could have blown out and ruined my wheel. So I jack the car up and remove the wheel. Smack dab in the middle of the tread is a approx 3/8th inch diameter hole. I try plugging it but the hole was too big. Same deal with Fix-a-Flat, it still leaked air out like crazy. On went the spare and off to the nearest Discount Tire about 5 miles away we went.

When we got there the dude comes out and checks out my tire. The first thing he does is pull out the tread depth gauge. Now I noticed on my last tire rotation that the tread seemed to be all the sudden lower than I remembered, but I didn't think they were even close to needing replacing since they are 50,000 mile tires and I had only put 20,000 on them. Well sure enough they were at 3/32nds, so not only could he not honor my road hazard warranty through Discount on that one tire, but he said I'd have to replace all 4 tires and they wouldn't be able to honor the 50,000 mile warranty because it's a Continental factory warranty, not theirs.

So after checking out their stock I quickly decided on Kuhmo Ecsta 4X KU22s in the same 225/45/18 size. He said Kuhmo's seem to hold up better mileage-wise and had good reviews on them. He also said between me and him the Continentals were notorious among Discount guys for not even coming close to their mileage warranty, which I had not read in any of the reviews when I was researching tires in Aug. of '11.

Anyway, they worked on the price and pretty much threw in the warranty so all in all I got a great deal on the new tires but was left with an unexpected bill on Monday. So far the Kuhmo's are proving to be better tires. Maybe a hair more road noise but the handling and grip feels far superior to the Continentals. I haven't checked the air pressure in them yet so they might get even better with a little more PSI. Keeping my I at least get past halfway to the mileage warranty on these at 40,000.

So in conclusion, disregard anything positive I've said about the DWS's in the past, they've now quickly gone onto my sh*t list.

The new tires...

Well, thats a surefire way to deflate a fun day (pun not intended, maybe).

From what Ive heard of late, the Contis seem to be hit or miss. I think Im going to avoid them for a while.

I thought that rear mount was some kind of toy car at first glance

Sucks about the tire, but it seems like you were able to make the best out of a bad situation. Let us know how the tires hold up.

How're you enjoying the shifter?

Pun well received. I would definitely avoid them unless you don't care about mileage. On the other hand I've now discovered these Kuhmos which are really impressing me. They were underinflated at 32psi so I pumped them up to 38psi today and they handle even better. Night and day difference from the Contis.

Thanks Aman. At this ripe old age I've finally discovered it's much better to make light of a bad situation and not over react. It really could have been so much worse.

I'm still enjoying the shift knob, although of late I've been thinking about going back to stock. I change shift knobs like I change underwear, about once every other month.

I was about to order some tires for my MS3 and I'm glad you swayed me. I was looking to buy the DW'S because I had them before and was happy overall with the ride quality, noise and handling on my old BMW. The mileage was very low ~25k but i thought it was because i drove them hard and didn't rotate them because they were staggered.

I was also going to pull the trigger on some Eagle GT's from Sears since they had a ridiculous deal on them, buy 3 get 1 free and some other coupons, but the road noise reviews had me very hesitant.

I've got my local tire place getting a quote for me on the ECSTA 4X's now. They told me that these tires were discontinued and replaced by the Ecsta LX's. Were you aware of that?

Glad I could help. I had no idea they were being discontinued and replaced by the LXs. I wonder if that's why they were able to give me such a deal on them? I looked up the price on discounttiredirect and they were listed for $30+ more per tire than what they charged me.
