New Valentine One update
Heads up V1 owners. New update available.
There was not 1 about 6 months ago for mine, but there is now. Sent it in today for upgrade at the tune of $202.
I think this is the 1st update in years for the V1.

The Valentine One radar detector now includes software version 3.892. This new version includes a new feature called Traffic Monitor Filter. This feature eliminates false alerts caused by frequent K-band radar bursts from Speedinfo, a system used to monitor traffic flow on US highways.
Traffic Monitor Filter is turned off by default on new V1 units out of the box, but can be manually activated by the user.
There is one caveat: When Traffic Monitor Filter is enabled, K-band POP radar detection is turned off. (it does not affect Ka-band POP protection). Valentine One recommends that you only activate Traffic Monitor Filter if Speedinfo is active in your area, otherwise you should leave it disabled.
It's hardware version 1.85 & also includes POP2 coverage.

I may have to send mine in. As im sure Bob is aware they have installed those traffic sensors all over the place here and it makes the thing useless for the most part.
Unfortunately the Passport SRX on my M3 doesnt have a feature for this so I roll around with K band turned completely off.

JB just buy it... if it ain't broke, don't fix it... and it looks like valentine is sticking with the design and just keeps updating the internal software... much cheaper maintenance...
^ Yeah, I know. It's just a way to keep that money in my pocket.
Plus, I find I need it less and less. Much less then when I had my TL-S.... so using the re-design excuse is a good reason to keep spending my money elsewhere

Again was told the others out there are not the V1 & the V1 doesn't need those things to be the best... Typical sales people.
I didn't need the update, but I had to send it in anyway to be looked at as it wasn't picking up K band reliably & something was rattling inside it.

Never used the updated Escort but did have a 8500. I think coverage is equal. I just like seeing where the radar signal is coming from with the arrows. And I'm not about to dump something that has worked great for me & saved me much more then the cost of the unit or the update.
fuzzy, I'm aware of the update and am contemplating doing it, but I probably will once I know there aren't any Rallies that I'm going to need it for
But when I went on their website and punched in my Serial Number, it said it would cost $79, not the $202 that you say. Why so much more?

I received my unit back only Monday. That took forever....
Works like it did before. Although I do seem to be picking up false K band & laser more.
I don't care how it looks, as long as the arrows do the job.
And other than some falsie K beeps, it does its job admirably. All the cops around here use Ka band or, rarely, laser, anyway.

Valentine One Savvy - Just in time for Xmas!

This is not a new radar locator, but rather a quite affordable and helpful accessory that both simplifies “hard-wiring” your detector into the car, and allows you to automatically stifle all those annoying beeps from door openers and so forth below a selectable preset speed. We borrowed a test unit over Thanksgiving for a trip from Detroit to Memphis, with plenty of shopping-related in-town driving in Memphis. Here’s how it works:
The device (manufactured in conjunction with GoPoint) plugs into your car’s OBDII port and includes a pigtail with two RJ11 jacks. The port provides 12-volt power to both your Valentine One detector and your Concealed Display, but it also includes circuitry that reads the vehicle-speed sensors and mimicks your finger on the detector’s mute button if the vehicle is traveling below your preset speed threshold, which is selected via a small white thumb-wheel. You still get one tiny beep, but none of the continued bleating that would ordinarily have you repeatedly reaching for the mute button while driving amongst multiple door openers.
The unit worked perfectly on my drive, and the OBDII mount in my test car even placed the thumbwheel where I could see it and easily tweak the adjustment (this won’t be the case in most cars). I left it set at 55 mph. My peripheral vision is pretty good and I could see the arrows light up when the bogeys were located. The device, set to its “t” mode also successfully ignored all of the traffic-flow-monitoring (non-enforcement) radar units lining I-75 through most of Ohio. Bottom line, when this thing made noise, it usually meant business. We still love the locator function, as it confirms without a doubt where you need to look for the threat, and let’s you know definitively when you’ve passed it. If the V1 beeped for Ka, I jabbed the brakes, and usually found a real threat just up the road. I managed to make the trip without enriching any local constabularies, but then it is also my custom to never stick my own neck out–I stray significantly above posted limits when I can do so in the company of others. We did experience a few apparently bogus laser blasts (we never saw a squad car after a laser alert), and we remain unconvinced that any detector can provide sufficient warning–they seem like ticket-detectors when the signal is for real.
The Savvy unit will retail for $69 by itself, or $449 when included with a new Valentine One. It strikes us as a nice, affordable upgrade for anyone who owns a Valentine One detector.

My son uses a V1 and I've not found it dramatically better than my S2. Honestly, I'm not looking to upgrade from my S2 yet but if I do, I'll likely get the Passport iQ.
personally V1 is the 911 of radar detectors; had mine over a decade. on coastal drives this unit is the bomb.
