New S60

Got this for the wife. It was down to this and the guila. T6 AWD momentum w premium package, Navi, 19” wheels. Black on black. Tremendously discounted and the lease was hard to pass up. Stickered at 47k sold for 40k and lease was 339/mo 7500 miles 36 mos tax and bank dmv fees out of pocket. My only regret is not stepping up to the inscription package which unlocks the amber leather seats with black seat backs...and Bowen’s and Wilkins sound, But wasn’t worth the money. And she didn’t care much.

The interior and build quality of guilia had my wife walking away fairly quickly.

Car is QUICK and handles very well. Surprisingly. It feels faster than the guila given it is turbo and supercharged. 0-60 is 5.9 advertised but reviews say 5.3. Steering is very tight and fast in dynamic mode. Lots of cool tech features. Really has me thinking about the XC90 when the outback lease is up.

Will report back with more info if others are shopping this car

Interior and build quality of the Guilia is quite good. And you can lease a Ti Sport sticking around $47-48k for $300/mos with 0 down and 10k miles.

That said, The volvo is a good looking sedan and if the wife is happy, good.

Great looking ride and awesome deal--I haven't driven the S60; but, I'll do so to compare with my Giulia

I would have gotten a guila Ti Sport over the S60. If it was my car. But her reaction after test driving the guila was “it looks like a corolla” followed by sitting in an S60 inscription “wow! That guilia was a waste of time”

anyway I would rate it:
gullia handling 9/10, or 10/10 for the class
S60 T6 handling 7/10

guila acceleration 7/10
s60 t6 acceleration 8/10

....the thing with the guilia is that it probably has the best in class handling. And the looks. Which makes it unique. But across the class, I would say the Volvo has the best balance of performance, looks, and build quality. All of the reviews I’ve seen on YouTube are fairly consistent stating the guilia is untouchable in terms of handling, but Volvo is a sleeper car that offers the best of both worlds compared to other cars in the segment

anyway it was a great compromise to get her something she really wanted while I get a taste of fun. And we have the understanding that I have free reign on selecting the replacement to our second car, the outback. And that means everything to me since I’m realllly eyeing the new full size bronco. And there’s no way she’d be cool with having both a guilia and a bronco in the driveway

I'm sorry--you lost me at, "looks like a Corolla..." I'm glad that you both found what you were looking for

Another thing I discovered which is greatly appreciated as a passenger - Volvo carves out the back of the front headrests. It’s like a cushioned fixed blade the angles forward. I don’t know if this is intentional, but a rear facing baby seat has about 3” more clearance since the upper lip of the baby seat fits within the contoured headrest. This allows me to put the passenger seat pretty far back. I probably get similar legroom in the front passenger seat as a full size sedan. My knees aren’t jammed up against the dash. There’s a good 2-3” more knee room in the passenger seat compared to my outback with a rear facing baby seat behind me

Haha! Tell me about it. My reaction was - did you see the front grille!? (I favored the guilia btw. Tried to sell her on a test drive but it didn’t pan out since she doesn’t push the car hard)

Close. Glen Ridge in Essex County. Nice historical houses with gas lamps. Love it here. But property taxes are eye watering brutal. Definetly cuts into the car budget. Most treat the town as a ‘long term rental’, commute into NYC, get the kids through the schools and get out quick.

I hear that. The clock is ticking my NJ residency as well; paying a fortune in prop taxes here in Somerset County, not to mention the $500/month I pay for NJT rail commute (to NYC) and parking.

I sold a car that was paid off and was going thru the budget to take on a second lease. And i briefly backed into what cars I could lease if I magically could stop paying property taxes. And here’s the monthly equivalent (and the payment doesn’t go up every year either). I died inside

$100k to borrow a car for three years and only drive 7,500 miles?! Pass Such a bad ass car though.

Share some interior pictures of the Volvo!

There's something to be said about a luxury car that doesn't look needlessly aggressive, but instead actually looks luxurious. IMO the trend of making everything angry looking and tacking on carbon fiber bits is overplayed. S60 looks great.

dont have any on my phone, and it's the wife's car. it looks like standard fare new volvo. the XC90, S60, XC60 all have the same dash layout. I have black on black with brushed aluminum trim. it nice. seats are great. although the interior would look materially better if i opted for the inscription package (which unlocks the amber seats) and the bowens and wilken stereo (which replaces black speaker grilles with the laser cut aluminum grilles). otherwise, the momentum trim (which i have) has either black or blonde interiors - and the blonde interior is way too light for wife's make up stains, baby milk etc etc etc).

gauge cluster is full LED with different gauge settings and navi.

Beautiful interior! I'm going to test drive one this weekend to get a feel for what I might be interested in if AR exits the US market again Are paddle shifters an option for the S60?

What you want is the T6 engine. It’s standard w AWD. You could get a momentum, inscription or R design. Only the R design has paddles but all T6s have the +/- auto stick. Despite what most think, the R Design doesn’t have any improved performance, it’s just paddles and aesthetics (minus I think one option that’s unlocked). The R design honestly isn’t worth the extra money. I didn’t opt for it because I wanted a black exterior and most of the updated aesthetics are hidden. But I could see myself maybe pushing for an R Design if getting in a flashy bright color.

Most cars delivered have have a premium package w comes with most of the basic luxuries. T6 momentum plus premium is about 45/46...

they sell a racechip ranging from 45-75 HP (and 15-20% fuel efficiency) which I find hard to believe, but may look into. Relatively inexpensive mod for a few hundred so fuel savings alone it pays off

Thanks for the info! For a 'race chip' are referring to a ECM tune or ECU flash? If it's an ECU flash, I'd caution you on checking Volvo's warranty to ensure an ECU tune won't void it (likely will).

I have tunes on my Giulia and Stelvio, pushing the stock to make ~360--390HP / ~404--428lb/ft TQ -- they're beasts, especially with the extra TQ and a blast to drive.

And I DO get better gas mileage too, even with my spirited driving behavior (always Dynamic modes with performance or race selected in my tune maps). Good to know that paddle shifters and tunes are possible on the S60

How does the S60 sound? I love a grumbly exhaust note on a cold start -- the ARs have that Italian grittiness to their notes

Good to know. Will have to look into. Not sure

the grittiness compared to the guila (which I test drove twice) pales somewhat in comparison. This is a Volvo and isn’t raw like AF. The engine cover of the Volvo is unheard of - a big pillowed foam piece. Saw a review that jokingly said they wish they could remove the engine cover to take a nap on it. Anyway cold start revs are somewhat loud. You could hear the intricacies of the turbo spooling and supercharger whining which is nice. It sounds throaty but mostly from the outside. I could h at my wife tearing down the street, but I’m sure it’s quiet from the inside. Volvo tries to muffle the noise into the cabin and doesn’t pipe it in like BMW. A chip and exhaust would really open up this car for sure

i know I said the R Design has the same performance as any trim level T6, but it’s not as raw as the likes of Audi S, bmw M etc etc. but I does seem to have similar to better acceleration and handling compared to the A4 and 330
