Well, the Prius had 10 months left on the lease...

And I didnt want another Toyota...but they offered me a deal I couldnt refuse, and I actually like the car a lot.

2010 Prius III with 22.5K....10 months left on my lease.

Got one of the stupid mailers...and something about the prius annoyed the shit out of me that day, so I said fuck it, I'll waste 20 minutes and go in and have a laugh.

Damned sales manager threw me a huge curve ball....parts manager had a 2012 dealer demo Highlander SE loaded with nav, back up cam, leather, heated seats, etc etc...also added running boards and chrome versions of the stock wheels. He offered to take my Prius no penalty and put me in the Highlander for 3 years for 299 plus tax...no drive offs...car has about 15k on it. but since its a demo it can be leased under the new car incentives.... .00001 money factor....grey with black leather.

Fucker peaked my interest, so I had the wife go to another dealer and drive one...she liked it (she hates the prius)

So, today I go back...I worked a 2 year lease (this way I'm never out of warranty) for the same numbers...So Im at $330 month all in, 23 months (they are paying the first month) They take the Prius off my hands clean...and I paid $550 up front for GAP insurance.

I was only paying 215 for the prius...so I stole both....

I dig the Venza a lot too...but the highlander has come a long way in the last few years. For an extra 100 a month for the wife to be happy...can't go wrong.

My in-laws have one, I've driven it quite a few times, it's definitely a nice SUV. Can't beat having a 3rd row with two little ones to haul around now. Enjoy!

Just curious, David, was the good MPG not enough to offset how boring the Prius was to drive? Was thinking about the fact that BOTH of you hated it. I've only driven one once and I hated how it felt like a tank...suspension was rough, felt like you had to press the GO pedal hard to get it moving...and I hated how the brakes felt (maybe due to that energy recovery system).

Anyway, I'd love to hear the take from an actual owner that drank the cool aid and didn't love it.

Well, I never drank the kool aid, I leased it because I got a deal that was too good to pass up. It was cheaper than a 3 year note on a used truck, with no need to maintenance (toyota care) and had enough room for my film gear. Just made sense financially.

I didnt hate the car....I actually didnt mind puttering around in it at times. But I NEVER got the advertised mpg...once I got 45mpg driving like a total grandma....usually we were averaging 35-38mpg....My wife's 2000 Civic that i havent sold yet is in that ball park (but talk about a car ive grew to hate driving.)

There was a stigma with owning a Prius....I think other assholes didnt give a shit more than usual in parking lots to Prius....other drivers on the fwy...The cabin was noisy, etc.

In the end, it was just an appliance that did its job well for the price I got...Im glad to move on.

Got it...
Thanks for taking the time to respond. I often wondered about how it would feel to drive one. Not so great, it turns out. If i went hybrid...it'd be the CRZ it would. Had one buzzing right by me this morning (in the TL).

For Barely any gas, and a $215 a month payment...you made out like a bandit for as long as you had it. As someone that couldn't even get his own 60" TV home the other day, I'm sure the extra space will be awesome...

I was eyeing the Highlander last time we got the Avalon serviced. They are really nice, but we don't need a Ute at the moment.

Nice! My wife has a 2012 SE with navi (I added the 19" limited wheels and the tow package).

She gets about 19mpg combined. I've been able to get around 27mpg on the highway. I think the best thing about it is the engine. That V6 performs pretty well.

The Highlander has been a perfect car for our family. Plenty of room, real comfortable, and it's just been really practical with the toddler.

Enjoy it!

Congrats, they are a nice SUV and that sounds like a heck of a deal. One of the reasons I have stayed with the same Acura dealer for 20 years and 12 Acuras later as they have given me deals like you got.

Same reason why I went from an 09 MDX base to the 12 MDX Tech that I have now; Clinton Acura made the deal nearly impossible to pass up. (....which is why I'm mulling over swapping my Accord for a last run TSX Tech.)

But that's an incredible deal Sarlacc. I just showed the wife this thread and her jaw dropped.

I have to give Toyota credit when it comes to the Highlander because it went from on the 1G to on the 2G.
