New Generation CR-V Reliability

Hello all. My mom's car is on its way out (not drivable as of today), and she's thinking about a new CR-V to replace it. Depending on the repairs required to fix her current car, my parents might just scrap it and get a new vehicle. But, I have some questions on the reliability. I've heard about A/C failures like the TSX and RL have, but don't know if this is just on previous generations of the CR-V, or is this also affecting the new one? I know it might be too new to tell, so anyone who has a new CR-V or has heard anything about them, please share your experiences/information.

Thanks.

My parents just bought a new 07 CR-V about a month ago. I like it. I drove it to lunch and back one day and it seemed to be fine. The ride isn't a cushy as their old car, it seems to have enough pickup for everyday driving. One thing I don't like is having the gear shifter sticking out of the front of the dash. But, I think more and more economy cars are going this route. I noticed in our local paper that there are a lot of deals to be had on 07 CR-Vs.

Thanks Jan. I've heard good things about them from friends and others who own them, so they're probably pretty nice. She hasn't even test driven anything yet, since this replacement thing wasn't supposed to happen until the spring of '08, but the car is not doing so hot right now, so they might be pushed into it earlier than they expected. I'm just hoping that Honda has cleared up the A/C issues that plagued the last generation. If my parents do buy a CR-V, it will be their first Honda product, and I want them to have a good experience. So far, all of their cars have been American, and my dad is quite reluctant to buy anything else. Maybe he'll change his mind once he's driven my TSX for a couple of days.

My Mom bought a 07 CRV right as they came out last Nov. or so.

Almost 1 year and 18,xxx miles later, I'm happy to report that there have been zero problems with the car and my mother is VERY happy with it.

Which trim is your mom interested in getting? The 2008 EX-L trim added dual zone auto climate control and power driver's seat. So depending on which trim she is interested in, she might want to think about getting a 2008.

I'm not sure yet, but I doubt they'll go for the top trim since it's more than they usually spend on a vehicle, but I'm going to push for an '08 anyway, just so they don't have a first year model. I'd like them to get the EX-L of course, but they're in the middle of renovating the kitchen so funds are running low at the moment and they are in no mood to spend more money. Kind of bad timing for this to happen, really.

I just don't want them to end up with another Sebring. Time to try something other than Chrysler for once.

dad's assembly line builds the engines for the CR-V so please buy one j/k

but seriously i drove a 06 seemed like it had enough power to get the job done. I haven't heard any quality or recall issues so everything must be atleast okay.

I haven't either, but it's new and that's why I'm a little concerned yet. I know the last generation had A/C issues and my parents won't be too happy if that happens. Even though their last 3 cars have been Chryslers, they've had pretty much zero issues with them and the hard part is going to be selling my dad on 1) a foreign car and 2) an SUV, even if it is a smaller one. We'll see how much influence my mom has when she gets back from her trip tomorrow night.

The CR-V has the same battery as the TSX.

Hope that helps.

Haha....I'm still thinkin about what to do with my battery.

We broke the news to her last night when she got home from her trip. She isn't happy about not having her car, but what does she have to complain about? She'll be driving me to work so she can have my car during the day. If anyone is complaining, it should be me!

Hopefully they'll get the car to the shop soon to get it looked at. In the meantime, I am pushing to test drive cars this Saturday just in case the news isn't good.

My dad and I had this conversation in the car yesterday:

Dad: I was looking at Accords last night online.
Me: Oh yeah? Mom keeps saying she liked the CR-V every time she sees it on the road, so you should look at that too.
Dad: It looks too much like an SUV.
Me: Dad, it IS an SUV. But it's a small one.

It's gonna be a hard sell on the CR-V.
