I spend about 5 minutes with it total and think I had it more or less figured out. Then Again I didn't pair my phone. Just did some voice commands, changed radio stations, heated seats etc. But a good point. What I loved about the Accord was the familiarity from having owned several Hondas.

But I like the understated styling of the Passat in some colors.
But if Ford offered a diesel, I would get the Fusion without a second thought.

The GLI has an idependant rear and better interior than regular Jetta's. think of it as a GTI sedan. A 'regular' Jetta with the solid rear axle and the 2.5 was never a consideration.

Maybe there is a reason for that.

1. Mazda6
I am a bit surprised that the 6 auto outperformed the Accord CVT.
Mazda6 / Accord
0-30mph 2.5 / 2.9
0-60mph 7.4 / 7.6
mpg 32.6 / 30.9
I owned both (626 and Accord) in the past.
I didn't like the 2009 and its stupid smiling theme. I can't understand the dash's central section of the Accord 2013 oriented toward the passenger; ugly if you ask.
Mazda6 for me. But I also like the GLI, just not 29K$C for a 2012.

Well there is always the standard Impreza 5-door which does come in an auto (CVT). Doesn't look as good as the WRX, but still a good car IMO.

Puts you into a CVT though. Haven't driven one personally to see how it is.

No thanks to anything with a CVT. If Honda's is best in the business than I want absolutely nothing to do with anyone else's.
Other than the old Legacy, nothing from Subaru really peaks my interest. The new Legacy is and the new Impreza just meh. Need something bigger than a Impreza as well I think.
I think its going to come down to the new Fusion or Accord. But I have issues with them both. Not sure I can trust the Fusion, (1st year build, turbo, questionable MPG) and the new Accord V6 is simply too expensive, not to mention also a 1st year build.
Love an A4 but the wife is lukewarm on a getting a used car that's more than a couple of years old. I'd have to go into a 2010 A4 to meet budget.
If the CVT in the Accord was better than I thought it would be I'd likely be in a Sport right now without question.
My Rabbit is starting to look better and better.

I'm looking at a few of the same cars and between your choices, if you're not going to spring for the V-6 Accord, then I'd go with the 2014 Mazda 6. Test drove both and the 6 handles very well, rides nice and is quite a looker. The Honda is a nice choice as well and they definitely improved it quite a bit over the previous.
I'm not too fond of the styling on either the Accord or the Altima although both are better than the previous models. If you made me pick, I think I like the Altima styling better. Just my opinion.
I recently test drove both the Accord and the Altima. The CVT in the Altima is definitely worse. I actually thought the CVT in the Accord was fine and not noticeable. The CVT in the Altima on the other hand... well, I could feel it doing strange things. Isn't half the point of a CVT that you won't notice transmission shifting?
Here's my thread on my car search in case it is useful to you since I'm looking at similar sorts of vehicles:

I feel the need...
Spot price in Motown for a 2013 Honda Accord EX-L V-6 4dr Sedan w/6-Spd Automatic is $28,142 USD (carsdirect). Take advantage of your rich currency and lock in a forward contract, oh say nine months from now, for a pair on the glass at ACC with your second favorite team.
I could be convinced to fire up the Art Vandalay Import/Export LLC for one trade.

Congrats on the new boy.
I voted for the Accord Sport CVT. That drivetrain is simply awesome and I loved it when I test drove it. I did not try the V6 with the CVT, that's not how I'd want an Accord but that's just me.
Haven't tried the new Mazda 6, but would love to as I keep hearing about what a driver's car that is.
Good luck, dom!

Nope. Just haven't had a chance to get out at all the last couple of weeks. The Mazda is next up for sure but I can't see myself settling for I4 after driving the Accord. We'll see but in all likely hood its looking like I'm going to hang onto the Rabbit for the time being. The Diesel 6 may be the answer as well so holding off until later this year or early next may make more sense. Still very undecided.

So not that anyone cares but I'm holding onto the Rabbit. I just can't decide. I'm desperately trying to like the new Accord but after 3 test drives, the CVT/4 cylinder combo is something I just can't stand.
I came very close to pulling the trigger on the Fusion SE with the 2.0L but backed out mostly because I don't have a lot of confidence in the reliability of Ecoboost nor the MPG ratings.
Got some very aggressive deals on both a Jetta or Passat but again, I don't love the cars. Considering I plan on keeping the car for awhile I want something that I love and that should be reliable for many years. Accord V6 hits the marks but I can't justify 38K out the door.
Hopefully something pops up within the next year. I'll be keeping a close eye on the used market for an Accord V6.

I guess you never got around to testing a Mazda6? It's on my short-list, but I haven't had a chance to go drive one yet. Been getting some great reviews.
The diesel might be worth waiting for, something like 60% more torque over the gas engine, not sure one the %$ increase though.

And I'd imagine you'd see better numbers in the Fusion.
