Need new car

So my dad got into an accident and the insurance company told us today that his car (corolla) is totaled. So he needs a new car now. He's going to be looking probably at $20,000 or lower. He drives a 100 miles a day for work so he needs good MPG. Reliability is pretty important. Soo any suggestions to new cars out there?

I was thinking the Hyundai Sonata GLS with just the auto option. Puts it right at the 20k mark. I gotta admit this car looks pretty good. And it gets 25 city and 34 hwy which is not bad. Other cars to consider is a corolla again, and a civic.

What do you guys suggest?

Also does anyone know the reliability of Hyundai's. I dont know to much about them.

Really almost any Honda will fit the bill. The current gen Civic is a great little car, SI sedan would be the best to get if your dad wants a little more sport (manual only), EX-L if he wants more luxury. Used is probably the best way to go for Civics since they're indestructible anyways.

we alrdy have an accord and well we dont like it to much, wasnt as great as we though it would be. I will tell my dad to look at civics, they seem to be better. He doesnt really care for perfomance right now. Since he works at LAX he basically just drives on the freeway and sits in traffic sometimes. So he doesnt need a sport suspension.

Used Jetta Diesel ... Could probably put 250,000 miles on one. It'll require maintenance but the fuel savings would more than make up for it doing 100 miles a day.

THe engine might last but everything else will fall off of it!!!

Seriously, the Jetta diesel was the first thing that came to my mind too. Your idea of the Sonata isn't bad either. I hear that new Kizashi is pretty nice too...

ts said no accord i believe, Camry is a good choice though.

the Hyundai Sonata, as well.

Both are extremely reliable and have enough boot to catch up onto the freeway

If this version of the sonata was out right now, I would totally tell my dad to pay the extra for that! Well equipped for under 25k! And you get 274hp and 34mpg.

Hyundai has been stepping up their game recently

100+ miles a day, I would be considering a diesel powered car as well.

~20k humm....

Golf tdi
civic (exl if he wants luxury)
prius (good deals now )
insight
fiesta (out in summer so probably not an option)
sonata is good to if he needs a bigger sedan but u have an accord right?

i don't personally like the corolla and find it very boring compared to a civic

have fun car shopping!
