Yeah thanks, it is in terrific shape (I searched for more than a year to find it). It had 119,000 miles when I got it 6 weeks ago. Now I'm already up to 124,000.

That's in impeccable condition. Very nice. I'd LOVE to have an E30 3-series as a daily driver. Good looking kids too!!

No, it's just a weekend toy / track day car. I drive a company car Monday - Friday.

Nah, the kids came first - ha ha!

If it wasn't for the munchkins, I'd be posting pictures of a Porsche 911 right now...though the Bimmer's a fine compromise.

The kids love the BMW by the way.

Almost an M3 ... as I recall, the 325is model was fairly close back then to the M3. Many moons ago, I almost popped for the same thing.

Congrats.

Yes, the 325i and M3 had virtually identical straight-line acceleration. The M3, however, is a better track car due to it's lighter weight, peakier engine and improved suspension. The 325is is the better around town car thanks to it's flatter and wider torque band.

Mine's pretty much an amalgam of the two, with the torque delivery of the 325 and the suspension of the M3.

Dyno results

I took it to the dyno this weekend...

Even though it was 88 degrees, it still managed a max of 148 hp (SAE) and 149 tq (SAE). That works out to approximately 175 hp/176 tq at the crank.

BTW, the blue line is the gain after installing the Eurosport (Conforti) chip.

Keep in mind: E30 M3=195hp 2.3L Inline 4

The E30 M3 was truly the Integra Type R of it's time. It ran 0-60 in 6.5-7 seconds and topped out at ~145mph...at the time (88-91) that was unheard of for an NA 4 cylinder and only a few NA I4s to date post those numbers (i.e.: ITR, RSX-S to name a couple). I've seen 1 or 2 at Etown with basic bolt ons running stock E36 M3 times (very low 14s).

The E30 M3 was the highest winning M3 ever, racking up over 1500 victories for BMW in various different series and what not.

And it was a speed demon back then as most cars of the late 80s were slow as all hell.

So when did I ever state it wasnt a great race car? Thats what it was built for. I know the rich race history of BMW due to the fact of growing up in a BMW only house. I was enstilled at an early age that this was the only brand that one should ever buy. What i was commenting on was the flat out speed of the car. "If you are looking for abundent straight line power, you'll be sorely disappointed-as many have been."(Bimmer #51, June 2005) This car won many races due to corners, not straight aways. Which is what I was talking about before. And, you really cant compare the S14 engine to many other cars out there. How many came with a race engine?
