This thread is one of the craziest examples of impulsive buying I've ever seen here ...

So Dave, I think you should just stop asking for advice and just go do it. No one here agrees with it and because of that we're just going to be raining on your parade.

Get your M3 and enjoy it and keep us updated on how much you love it.

What you just explained, is how leased vehicles work.
Why spend all that money, when you're just gonna give it up!?

Yea, man... I'm scratching my head on this one... you went from not even looking to buy a new car, to buying a m3 on eBay, to not getting that M3, to now getting a Euro Delivery 2011 m3. Not for nothing... you should do all your research to find out about it, then wait for at least a month or two before making a decision.

I think in reality a used M3 will be a better financial decision than a Euro Delivered one. Buy one after it's taken it's initial depreciation hit.

But honestly neither are good financial decisions. Before you talked about like 25k down and finance the rest, now you're going to need 50k down or more, plus the travel expenses, taxes etc... Seriously, if you are sitting on that much cash in a bank account, go meet with a financial adviser. Take that 50k and in 5 or 10 years, you could easily have a few hundred grand. Put that into that car, and in 5 or 10 years you'll just have a 5 or 10 year old M3.

just saying...

I see where you are coming from, not really thinking of buying a new car and bam you see one online that you could manage to buy (something tells me it would end up owning you but regardless). It was a bit too good to be true and now you can't stop thinking about getting an M even though it probably isn't the wisest decision.

We all go through this but I think I speak for everyone on here(well the ppl looking out for your best interests) when I say you really need to put this off for a month or so to really think about it. Yes, it would be awesome to have that car especially at 20 but there is a reason few 20 year olds have one without their parents help, it isn't a good idea. Working all those jobs, yes you could do it it seems but is this something you really wanna do?

Not trying to be mean but you really should go back and read through this thread and pretend your posts are a random strangers and then really think about it. What do your parents think of this btw? Do you live with them?

Edit - Petec beat me to it

Another option is to get a 2010 model thats on a dealers lot. You can get them for about the same price as a euro delivery but with cheaper financing. They offering 0.9% on 2010 M3s.

Do that and invest your cash elsewhere.

Sigh.

There are 144 new 2010 M3s on autotrader, even 64 of them are DCT. If you willing to travel to Germany then im sure you wouldnt mind traveling in the U.S for the right M3.

Don't you have to pay euro tax upfront? Of course you'd get it refunded when the car makes it to the states, but isn't it something like 19% of the sale price of the car? That's kind of a lot of money to have tied up until the car makes it over here. That's the way it works at Audi at least. That's why I chose not to go the ED route for my S4.

Good luck OP

That is correct. If the final destination of the vehicle is the USA (you're doing the ED thing), the 19% VAT (and people think US tax is bad) is waived.

Now, once you hit the US and you go to the DMV, you WILL pay sales tax, and in this case, gas guzzler tax, to your state. And NY is not a cheap state. So I hope you have $10K ready when you arrive and try to register it.

Honestly, save the money, go buy a used M3, and pocket the rest. You'll have a blast with any M car, and once it starts to be a repair liability, sell it.

I'm not completely sure what a Euro pick up is, but is it when you go to Europe and get the car, or you just order it and ship it here? I know a friend whose parents got a Volvo from Sweden and they made it into a week long trip. That is what you should do Dave...spend some time in Europe. Paris great, I just got back from there 8 months ago. Also, I bet you'd like to try out the M3 on the autobahn.

Um, I commented on at least 4 of the 8 pages......... He still hasn't done this yet, and was hoping some of us would get through to him.

I make good money, and could pay cash for an M3. Is it a car I want? Oh, yeah. However, it is not the smart move, financially. So I won't.

I wondered why he didn't just want to go buy a new one (when he was looking at the scammy ebay one for $50k). I mean if you're gonna go hog wild like that you might as well do it right and get one with practically 0 miles on for a little bit more. Then at least you'd have the satisfaction that it hasn't been pounded on by somebody else.

Extended leather>*

Its a shame you can't get full leather in those cars. Makes a huge difference in the look of the interior.

LOL...that is a really funny suggestion!!!

My best friend who lives in southern Cali called me a couple months ago to say he had been accepted to medical school in Michigan and he wanted a good car to make it through the winters up there..sooooooooooo... My brother who is an ER doc drove a Subaru during his residency in Chi Town (and still does 200+k miles later)... so what did my smart friend do after I talked with him and we looked at the numbers and options... he bought a Subaru...
