My doctor told me to avoid spark plugs....I'm cured!
so I had to quit gas and go diesel.
In late August I was heading to lunch and was rear ended. I was pushed into the car in front of me which is the damage you see here.
Surprisingly the rear did not sustain much cosmetic damage. Due to a back-up at the body shop, it was a couple weeks before I could bring it in. There was some decent frame damage plus the fact that is was a 8 1/2 year old car I was told the car would be totaled.
I had been very intrigued by the VW diesels for a while. I have a 45 mile (one way) commute, 40 of which is highway. I was all set to buy the new Golf Sportwagen next year, but the wreck moved my timeline up quite a bit. After a few test drives I knew I wanted a 2015 Golf TDI SE with the lighting package. I also knew that I loved the manual trans in the Golf.
Of course the dealer did not have one on the lot, but there was one "on the boat" that was going to be in port the last week of September. This car was heading to a dealer in Washington DC, but a deal was worked out and I was only going to have to wait about 2 weeks for the car. A couple days later I learned that the DC dealer refused to let the car go which left my dealer scrambling. I ended up ordering my car around Sept 15....and finally took delivery today.

Congrats!! Looking forward to hearing your impressions once you put some miles on it. Great choice with the 6mt. What's the interior material/color?

The pics with the phone kinda sucked for interior shots so they'll have to wait. But it is black leather (leatherette).

Thanks for the congrats and compliments.
Here is my day and a half update:
I love torque. The low RPM pull is intoxicating. Definitely makes the car feel faster than it is.
The lighting package is awesome and I am so glad I got it. I like the style/layout of the LEDs and I learned last night that the headlights sweep left or right as you're making a turn.
It was not dark enough to get a feel for the interior ambient lighting, but I'll probably go for a spin this evening to check it out.
I'm very happy I went with the Tungsten Silver. It's light enough that it will hide most nicks and scratches, but dark enough to shine and be reflective. I can't wait till the first detail. Yes it does sit up pretty high, but right now the only mod I have planned is adding many thousands of miles. Sure I'd love to drop it, chip it and put in a short shifter, but that will have to wait.
The interior is also pretty nice and it's quiet or at the very least a lot more quiet than the TSX. The dash is the same "soft touch" that I had in the TSX and the leather(ette) definitely feels nicer in this car than in the Acura. The flat bottom steering wheel is just cool.
In the coming weeks/months I'll be sure to keep this thread updated with mileage figures and other general impressions. So far my only "miffs" are that I wish it had HomeLink and the shifter sits up pretty tall. But that is minor since it'll spend most of its time in 6th on the interstate.
Here are some more pics.
and this one is for JS+BRZ

Looks like a great place to spend many miles! Nice to see a manual handbrake in there. How is the audio?
Keep an eye on the soft touch stuff. Hopefully it's improved in the past decade, the older ones commonly peeled. Both my 03s did.

The audio is pretty damn good, or at least better than what I am used to. The TDI SE comes with a Fender system and includes a sub. Still need to play with the settings to get it right.

I'm back in Minnesota for work, but when I get home I'll be sure to take some night shots. The interior lighting is pretty nice but the headlights steal the show.

I don't think you are crazy. The car does look like its riding high and there are tons of reports/posts on VWVortex.com about dealers not knowing they were there or flat out not removing them.
OP I know you haven t had your new ride long but does it seem like it is occasionally bottoming out for no reason?

It never felt like it was bottoming out. hmmmm
Will have to check it out when I get back home.
Would the shipping blocks be pretty obvious (i.e. by "just looking") to see?

Take a look at this thread - VWVortex.com - Shipping/strut pucks—do not believe a word your dealership says
There are three on each side but only on the front. Jack up one side (to relieve the suspension weight) and push the boot up on the strut.

Congrats on the new ride.
It would be nice if Acura would get Diesel here.

Well I am pretty sure they are still in there.
Since my Dad is in town this week helping out while I'm gone I had him measure the ground clearance. Spec is 5.4" and he was measuring almost 9"
