Your Prairie Island? We are not messing with it, we're fixing it.
Should get out of here early tomorrow, just not early enough to take car to stealership before they close. Oh well.

fixing it eh? So what did Xcel do to it this time?
that place comes up in the news every once in a while for some issue so it's not surprising that someone is trying to fix it..

Well upon further review, there were no suspension blocks/pucks left in.
I had it checked out this morning, but thought that it might be okay after some research and poking around the suspension.
Guess I'll just be riding high.

Sorry for causing any undue/unwarranted stress, but it does look like it is riding high. I guess there must be a bit of suspension travel and/or VW is allowing for the optional mud-bogging tires - I kid.
Best of luck to you and enjoy your ride!!

Some more items that I learned today.
If just the LED DRLs are on and you use the turn signal, the LED on that side will go out. Very much like Audis.
The dead pedal in the Golf is perfectly placed for me. In the TSX, it was just a little off.

My Dodge Avenger rental last week did the same thing. Right DRL turned off when right signal was used and vice versa.

So far so good on the MPG I am experiencing.
On my second tank I averaged 40 mpg over 440 miles.
I am pretty happy with that considering the engine is still a couple hundred miles from being broken in, the temperatures being so low this week, and driving 75mph on the interstate.
I did not record the MPG on the first tank, but if memory serves me correctly it was in the same ballpark.
for decent weather this weekend so I can give it a good detail.

Mileage is great but I'm curious if it is offsetting the cost difference between regular and diesel fuel. Delta is still about $0.60 / gallon here.

Right now the 1.8T is a better choice. As soon as gas goes up a dollar a gallon, the cost gets less pronounced. That said, I would still buy the diesel because it is the better engine. 236lb-ft is so nice. Plus, the diesel can hit 50mpg if you take it easy. The 1.8T is a mid-30s car.

Wow 40mpg on an engine still breaking in and in cold winter months! I bet you'll see close to 50mpg this summer.

Due to the overly "high" suspension I've been toying with the idea of springs. VW sells "driver gear" springs would would drop the car by ~1". I'm not a fan of aggressive or slammed cars so this amount of drop would look pretty good.
The dealer quoted $350 all in (parts, install and alignment) and I am very tempted. The parts alone are in the $200 range. The reason I want to stick with these parts are that I don't want anything to fuck with the warranty.
I've never modded a car before but I think this one is almost....almost, a necessity.

I just bought 4 stock GTI springs from a well known, reputable internet VW store and paid $385.20. That's just the parts.
I don't want to poop on your deal, but you might want to check it closely. Verify they are using actual VAG parts and check the price independently.

These springs have a VW.com price of $275. Local VW dealers have them on their sites for slightly more than $200. Using these values it's in the $150 range to install and align.
I may also be getting a deal on the parts since I purchased the car from them.
Thanks for the warning though and I will look into that when I do get it done.
EDIT:
I sent a note to the dealer using the Part Number from VW and got a call from a service manager with that price. I have his name and will probably do it one day next week (or this Friday if I cannot wait!)

^ Maybe not
I called the dealership to set up a time for tomorrow and the guy I talked to yesterday was not there today. I was transferred to the service department and was told that it would take ~4 hours to install the springs and that would cost $400+ in labor.
So I either misheard the guy yesterday, or these people are not talking to each other.

I was going to say that price seemed way too good to be true. 3-4 hours of dealership labor is expected with lowering springs install.

Called back today and was told $600. That is a better deal than other places, but I don't want to spend this much on the car for something that is not really needed.
Oh well.
Wish I could have gotten the $350 in writing.

That sucks. Wait a week and talk to the guy you dealt with and see if you can find a happy middle. If not, enjoy the car and lower it later.

An update to the suspension. I'll probably do it this summer.
Last tank was up to 44.5 mpg. It just keeps getting better!
I received my new plate and plate frame this week.

My (almost) 5000 mile report
The car will roll over 5k on my way home today.
I've been keeping track of the mileage 4600 of that and have a 42 mpg average.
I hoped for better, but for the time being I'll blame the cold (by NC standards) weather and winter mix diesel. I'm not going to blame cruising at 75 mph on my way to/from work
I can't think of any significant complaints about the car.
To correct the few minor nits I have I still plan to install some springs this summer. Coming from the TSX, the shifter in the Golf feels a little sluggish so I will try to fix that by installing a short shifter sometime in the future.
Another "want to" mod would be to change out the MDI in the car. VW of America for some dumb reason uses an interface which you need phone specific cables to connect to the car. Well for 2016 they are changing to the European model and it will be a USB interface. I'm hoping that the old one can be swapped for the new one with minimal fuss.
