I don't really have a problem with buying something with a brother (if you guys are really close like that). However, my advice for anyone buying a used/fancy sports car out of warranty is if you dont have the spare cash/income to get stuck with bills like this....
....don't do it if you dont. If you guys can, have fun and be careful if that's your first powerful car. No nanny's to save your a** on that thing. I will tell you, the active handling system on my Vette has been a God send. The tail WILL come out on you at unexpected times. Good luck man.

We're looking at buying it together and are very close. I rather get Corvette but my bro says too many of them around. We don't want Mustang for sure.

Like what?? I bought a 2001 RT/10 in January, and as a result have not been on this forum too often. Mine has 27,000 original miles, bought from the original senior owner who never even lit up the tires. Car is in perfect shape inside and out and runs like a clock. 450 HP, 490 Lbs torque, no electrical gremlins to worry about like my friends with their Z06es, and is relatively inexpensive to own/maintain if you buy a good one that has not been abused. Find me a car that is < $32,000 that has the exclusivity, sexy curves, and performance of a Gen II Viper...Chevrolet builds about 27,000 Vettes every year. Chrysler has built fewer than 27,000 Vipers since 1992. You will likely not see another one pull up beside yours at a stoplight ever. And they are relatively bulletproof if properly maintained and not abused. OP go find a good Viper, and enjoy it!!

I also now see that you're semi-local based on the black one you're looking at. PM me, and we'll go for a blast...after that it will be an easy decision.

The name alone resonates with many.
All I can say is those side exit pipes sound amazing in a tunnel. Like jizz right through your pants good.

GT500? Lol
I've been looking at them too, here's what you need to know. Gen III coupe can be had in the $40-$50k range -no problem. As you probably know, not forged... if you go N/A - they have a top end package to give it Gen IV power from Mopar directly. No real issues to look out for... window regulators are a known issue, $300-$400 to fix in parts I believe. Many folks go with the Paxton on the Gen III's.
If you can get into a Gen IV, I'd go that route, but you'll need to be closer to $60k. Snake skin green or orange is an awesome color... it's what I'd get.
Gen II GTS is my favorite in the looks department, but the Gen III and IV are a better car. If you plan on going TT, then you'll want to get into a 96-99 forged motor GTS.
I've been actively looking at vipers, think i'm going to go 996TT route since they have a backseat for the kids thougs

Personally i would rather have the Z06. Nothing like that 7 liter reving to 7k rpm. Not to mention better handling.

- '06/'07 Cayman with some engine and body goodies
- Lotus Elise (it's not all about power. Drive one and you'll see)
- C6 Z06 (wait a bit, prices are dropping now that the C7 is rolling off the line)
- 2003+ Viper (again, wait a bit now that Gen 5 is rolling off the line)
Just a few I can think of off hand...

'08 MX5 GT 6spd.
After spending a fair amount of time in a 2001 Viper (below) I have to respectfully disagree about anything that compares for the money, good sirs.

The Viper is truly a beast that remains untamed. The sound, the rawness, the looks....Park next to any Corvette & the Viper still gets all the attention. Elise's are great, but tiny...and I realize that power is not everything but I have never seen an Elise, or even Exige for that matter, run away from a Viper on a track. For the Lotus it comes naturally, but put the right driver in the Viper and there's no chance.

^ I agree the Viper is hard to beat. It's just that if it were me... I'd be in a 2003+. Looks more current. I used to love the old/original Vipers... but now, not as much. More of a looks thing then performance thing for me when it comes to the 2002 and older Viper...

Sounds like a terrible idea. But i tend to be overly practical. If you can't afford it yourself and comfortably maintain it without it impacting your lifestyle/future i'd pass.

The NSX should be on the list, but keep in mind the early cars do not have power steering.

I get what you're saying. Even my wife says my car looks "old" and prefers Gen III + Vipers but personally I've loved the original curves since I was a kid. Besides 60s Cobras still look badass today. I also agree the interior and top aren't the greatest, and that the 2003+ Vipers are improved in that regard, but to me seem more generic and less "out there". The rear lights for example have always bothered me - looking like they were taken right off a Sebring. 996s are a dime a dozen and cost way more to maintain, Cayman/Boxsters are too boring, Elise/Exige are real fun but a bit too small for me, and while I love NSXes, they don't have the raw torque that I was looking for. Yes I'm utterly biased I know, but I own my dream car and I couldn't be happier. Chrysler only made 874 2001 RT/10s, and a very nice example sleeps in my garage.
I don't necessarily think it's a bad idea for the OP to get that year Viper... he just asked for other cars in the $30k range, so we listed some. BTW, all cars listed can be made less boring and more unique for not much money. But it comes down to what he wants.
In the end, I think it's a bad idea to buy a car with someone... especially a family member. Never works out well. Either you have the money yourself, or you don't. Splitting an investment property or something is one thing... but splitting a $30k luxury item that's also a depreciating asset which can only be used by one person at a time just seems like a very bad idea.

I hear what you are saying but it all depends on the family. This car will only cost us both 15k each....not too bad for a summer car. We can both buy the car our own but why do it when you can spend half on it. We're also looking at 2003 Porsche 911 which is not bad option either.
