My B7 S4

So I finally made it to Valenti Audi yesterday, and they said that the compression test numbers were ok and within spec. So I then posted them on Audizine and was told the car needs to go. People on that site think that my 60 day warranty period is like a 60 day return period. Just because someone got to do it doesn't mean the dealer I bought it from is going to take it back especially without any evidence of a major problem, aside from some oil being burned though it is within the Audi spec for these cars. Here are the numbers 130, 135, 125, 130, 135, 135, 140, 150. As you can see the number don't deviate that much, and I don't know why Audi would lie and say it is fine when they aren't even aware of my situation and it's not the dealer I bought it from.

How did the did the previous owner (idiot?) know it had scored cylinders anyway?
I don't blame you for being worked up but you're going about it the right way. Second opinion from an authorized would put my mind at ease. I'd keep track of the oil levels though.

He said that he went to Hoffman Audi and they said that but I don't see sufficient evidence as to how they are scored. If they said the test numbers were around 100 then there would be no doubt.

And to catch you before you start bashing and trolling Audi/VW in here as you have in the past on Acurazine, here are some great comments about your reputation on other enthusiast boards:

The stupid kid (justin...) who posted this tag is about 19 yo and didn't like that I criticized his N20. In the process, he replaced his 328i with a 335i. The tag was removed in other BF threads by the mod but he apparently forgot one.
So much for little drama-queens like Sly Raskal who has definitely too much free time to the point of being DUMB. A combination of thin skin and small brain.
Back to the subject, SR's little girlie game won't change the fact that, even if they improved since then, I indeed spent 11K$ in maintenance & repairs over 29mo (from 108000km to 168000km).
Here is a copy&paste of a past email. And still, climate control wasn't working, neither A/C, seat memory.
Among repairs (in $CAD with taxes);
Power steering and pump 1500$
Timing belt & seals 350$
Engine head 1500$ (belt tensioner failed after timing belt change)
Driveshaft and many alignments1000$
Rear tie-rod ends (250$ each) 700$
Two sets of tires 1000$ (was never able to align this car correctly)
Flywheel sensor and towing 400$
Starter and Alternator and towing 600$
Intercooler flange welded and towing 250$
All rotors, rear galipers and cables 800$
Fuel pump 250$
Blower motor 300$
Front struts and bushings 500$
Rear bearings (95$ each) 350$

As you can already see by his last post and based on your reply, there is no common sense in his posts. There is no way to explain anything to someone as as him. It's along the lines of talking to a deaf person and hoping that they hear you and hoping they can also clearly respond back to you verbally. He's trolled our boards for a while now, along with many other boards. Dogs on Audi because in his mind, a manufacturer should be perfect, free from any defect and for some reason, he believes Audi is the only one that is incapable of learning from their mistakes. Yet, he brags about his beloved Bimmer yet if anyone dogs on Bimmer he can't handle it. A true BMW Douche. He :turds: on every thread he dives into. Save yourself the hassle and put him on your ignore list.

Sure it was a different car, but with these German mistresses, when things start to go bad, they can go out of hand quickly. Not the rule but it happens. Kind of hit or miss. I am "only" at 2600$ after 37000km out of warranty with my Bimmer. I agree; Audi is known to have improved their reliability with the 2005+ B7. But their S4's V8 reputation for that era until then was still epic and that was what I was referring to.

Yet *YOU* can't.
Ahhh those damn obsessional / bipolar people.
If you were properly tracking what I regularly write, you would see that I would choose an A6/A8 over a 5/7. So no ground to your delirium. I happen to like Audi.

I believe you owned a B6 A4 and although the B6 and B7 are similar in many ways, the improvements on the B7 motor are a night and day difference, and the 2.0T in the B8 is even better. However, I don't understand why you would even think about comparing the ownership experience of a B6 A4 to a B7 S4 when they are so different.

Once again, the question must be asked publicly - why are certain posters on here allowed license to derail virtually every thread they enter?

^I'd have to agree my car has double the cylinders, more than double the displacement, and one less timing belt you can even come on this thread bashing Audi when you owned a completely different car. My S4 other than this "problem" has been nothing but a dream since I picked it up. And is much more parctical up North than a RWD BMW.

Now that the resident know-it-all has chimed in, can we talk about the 10-12% variance in compression scores and how that doesn't seem normal.
I found this, which makes me wonder if you've got the start of some compression issues in that engine
http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...=1#post5496150
In PSI:
New = 145 to 203
Wear Limit = 130
Difference between Cylinders = max. 43.5

This is a link to my thread on AudiZine in case any of you are interesteed. As for the above comment I am going to be contacting a dealership tomorow to discuss the numbers. If for whatever reason I do keep the car I will be buying a thrid party warrenty.

WOW! Didn't know the 95% is still alive. Damn.
And yeah, current Audi owner here. 4 years maintenance fee = $0.

Out of curiosity is a leak down test the same as a compression test?

If 130 is the limit, that would really worry me. Although it's not the same car, my 2nd Integra had similar issues with too much variance between cylinders which ultimately led to the motor needing to be rebuilt. If the OP trusts that the compression values are accurate, and the wear limit is correct, then it sounds like the motor does need to be rebuilt.

I think a leakdown is when they place oil into the cylinder that is in doubt and if the number rises when the put the oil in there is a problem.

I think the final verdict is I am going to keep the car, and purchase a Carchex warranty that will cover the timing chain system and cylinder block. That way if it indeed has scored walls then the warranty will cover the parts and repair cost.

Congrats! She's a beauty
This may sound a little elementary but... could it just be leaking oil?

^ I wish as do all the other S4 owners who burn oil. If it were leaking it would more than likely be coming from the valve cover gaskets (common problem with this car), but hose have already been replaced. Also it is not dripping, though there is a splash guard that would detour the oil before it hit the ground. I will check when I change my oil but I don't expect to see anything dripping. Thank for the thought though.

I just washed the S4 today so I figured I'd throw up some pics. I am going to order some microfiber and foam pads within the next few weeks so I can detail it.

This is relevant to my interests. I looked at B6 S4's a long time ago and everyone said there was a reason they were so affordable. Will be watching to see how this car holds up.
