Looking for a fun summer car under $15k-20k

All joking aside I would not be able to choose between the two. You can get even an AP2 S2000 for cheaper than a Z06, and I'll admit the driving dynamics are better and driving with the top down is amazingly fun. When I went to help a friend buy a new 2009 Accord I also went to test drive an AP2 across the street from the same salesman, since he was cool as hell. It was the first time I really got to flog an S2000 with the top down.... other times I was a passenger, and other times I had to DD for a friend. No rev-happy fun there

If you want a car that you don't want to invest too much money in mod-wise, then get the S2000... it just speaks to you in ways that can't be matched, unless you're on a sportbike. Minus the danger
That sound...
I've heard a G5X3-cammed (IIRC) C5 in person.... and the video does not do them justice. In person, that will send a ice cold chill down your spine. The stock shifter in a C5, or pretty much most T56-equipped cars is pretty bad.... but with a Hurst or MGW shifter it gives them a tight bolt-action feel. The S2000 OTOH doesn't need anything at all, though a counter-sunk shift knob will make the throws even shorter and firmer.

Btw I just pulled that video off youtube at random, notice the irony though at 0:45 in silver...
Anyway back on topic!
To OP: I suggest looking on autotrader or cars.com at whats available local to you, take a day and go drive 3-4 different cars. Do it the same day though so you feel the differences between them.
For the next 6 weeks it is a buyer's market for sports cars, use it to your advantage!
I gotta say, awesome feedback from everyone. I appreciate it. Love the recommendations, from an s2k to a C5, they seem like total polar opposites... But yea, I'm going to head out online and check and see what's out there. I'm very thorough when I buy anything of value, so If I don't find exactly what I like, I'll just wait till next year.. Thanks for the tips!
g35 or g37 maybe? for me there is no question. Get an S2K. you can definetly have some fun with that. and btw my buddy has a cooper s and according to him this is the best aftermarket mini coop parts.

In an ideal world, I'd have an S2000 as a DD and a C5Z as the project car, even though those roles are perfectly interchangeable. But yup, the best thing to do is to drive em all, including the others mentioned in this thread and see which fits your needs and budget the best.

Keep up posted with what you find / drive
Surprised no one mentioned the Bi-Turbo 2.7T S4...
Saw one the other day, went behind him and all of sudden, I didn't even instigate this, he just saw my modded exterior, and he dropped it into gear passed the guy in front of him and pulled 7 car lengths on the spot.
They can be made to be beasts, best part is they offer a nice interior, and plenty of aftermarket, plus AWD.

X5 on the C5 Vette. A nice C5 Z06 will run $25K, though. I like the stance of the C5 Vette, and to me, the C5 does not look dated.
Vette's (C5's and C6's) are soooo much fun to drive in 6-speed form.

You think so? I saw one with like 40k miles a yellow c5 zo6 the dude wanted 20k. It was on eBay and didn't sell for 18k (reserve not met).
A nice 405hp model (ie. non 2001), with low miles, well-cared for, and accident free should run a few thousand above 20K after taxes.
