That's high pitched noise isn't the engine. But you can tell when he up-shifts the pitch of the noise gets louder, normally when you up-shift the pitch of the engine noise drops and then increases as the revs climb. It doesn't sound like a supercharger either.


He did pizzzzzzzown everyone else on the track though.

those are straight cut gears in the tranny.
i drove a car around Road America that sounded like that

 

Yep, straight cut gears.

If you want to hear something similar, throw your car into reverse and go full throttle. Reverse on street cars (including the TL) is straight cut.
