Lexus trying to put it in my butt.. help..

Hey guys, I have a 06 IS350, one of the damn ballasts is out, (lexus diagnostic confirmed it). It just went out of warranty (figures) and they want 1500 for the ballast and 300 for the bulb. If I buy a 200 aftermarket kit can I replace all the stock stuff and run it?

ty.

I love you all.

Yeah, most of those dudes are pricks, so I try to avoid it. I posted a thing a while back about tires, I had one blow out, (wife hit a ladder in the road) and was going to mix/match it with the same size but a yoko instead of the stock pirrelli, and they were givin me shit.

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to. If the parts have the same specifications... Factory shit is almost always extremely overpriced.

A good example is a factory OEM replacement converter for my car was quoted at $400.00 and I got a performance direct fit replacement for ~150.00

That sounds way to high for such a simple part, if you have no other luck shoot me a PM and send me the specifics of the car, I was in the auto repair biz for a long time and still have strong contacts, I may be able to find something. But I suspect if you can find a part number you should be able to get a PnP ballast from one of the many HID conversion sites. Good luck!

We had a pre-owned LS400 back in the day and right outside of warranty the AC compressor went. The service manager was a dick about it, too. Dad wrote Lexus and service manager called and said they would pay for have the cost.

Lexus cares about its customer service and name.

Corporate cares about their name, especially now. Agree with the above, squeaky wheel gets the grease. Start calling and if they say no, keep calling until they say yes. Trust me.

Complaint? why?

Lexus didn't do anything wrong, and clearly his warranty was up.

I'm with Sarlacc on this one. Try talking to them first, and if that doesn't work out then you could alway go with aftermarket HID kit.

1500 for ballasts? 300 for bulbs? Geesh. Stealership.

06 IS350 takes D4S bulbs and ballasts which are different than D2S, which most cars equipped with HID headlights come with, you can find a ballast and a bulb for under $100 you just have to know where to look.

Here is an auction for a D4S ballast

Kit bulbs and ballasts wont work since the ballast gets mounted to the headlight. Install is pretty simple if you know your way around a few basic tools. You would have to take the bumper off and then the headlight in order to swap the old ballast with the new one alongside the bulb. Let me know if you have any other questions.

is that the service advisor that told you that you are SOL? i would try to talk to the service manager if you just went out of warranty... i would ask him to help you out... normally ballasts should last a good while... did the ballast on your CL ever go out?

when i bought my 01 GS a few months ago, it didn't come with a warranty... but i brought it back to them a few times after i had the car for a few weeks to check out a noise for me... eventually they did some work on the brakes and replaced a serpentine belt... didn't charge me a dime... i thought the service was great...

if they won't help you... yes go to our headlight guru above...
