Lexus LF-A is the unoffical "Ring" leader

It's just the test mule, but looks a lot better than the GT-R for the same price if produced!

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/au...lexus_lfa.html

The king is dead, long live the king! Lexus’ long-awaited LF-A has unofficially smashed the lap record at Germany’s Nürburgring, with a time of seven minutes, 24 seconds. That beats Porsche’s new GT2 by a second and makes the Lexus the King of the ’Ring. Company insiders have revealed that a 4.8-litre V10 – co-developed with Yamaha – powered the record-breaking test mule. It revs to 9,000rpm and pumps out 552bhp. Combined with a highly aerodynamic body, it should enable the LF-A to hit 210mph.

I would be sweet if Lexus actually put this out. Seems like they're going after the sporty car drivers now.

Nice. Lets see what Honda can do with the NSX now. Looks like 550+HP will be a must.

Honda should be able to come up with something better when the NSX debuts....in 2016.

In looks department alone, I'd take the Lexus over the Nissan based on the pic above.

that's amazing what lexus did.

but this car is not gonna be in the same price range as the GTR. if the LS600 is 100k, this car is gonna be easily $120k+

man wat a sweet car!!

The GT2 is an actual production car. When Lexus actually builds this car in production form and runs a better time, I will be impressed. I am sure a lot of cars could run FASTER than that in non-production form.

with both MaximaPower and Maximized. And with a lighter, more performance oriented V-Spec on the way, Toyota might want to make certain that the production LF-A is even faster than this preproduction model.

I highly doubt the production model will look anything like that...

Here was the concept...

Here's the test mule of the actual production car. These were from June 07, so I'm sure they've been posted here somewhere already, but everyone is saying this is the design.

Look at the exhaust on the test mule,
hopefully that changes to something normal and not IS-F style either

what exactly does it mean when they say "...unofficially smashed the lap record..." ? Why isn't it official?

I'll believe it when I see some vids/pics. What is the estimated price on this when it comes out?

Car's not out yet, and maybe they have to do the lap timing some official way.

Apparently the Zonda F (time of like 7:27 or whatever) would have set a time down at 7:20 on its second lap after posting its time of 7:27, but started to suffer from fuel starvation at the end of the course and lost time (ie started to run out of gas).

Makes me wonder how much of an effect variables like outside temp, wind, etc,.......can have on the times over such a long course. Any thoughts,....Ideas,...comments?

well, wouldn't you think the 2nd lap, having less weight (less gas in the tank) played a factor?

They didn't have another go with more gas in the tank? Or is it's gas mileage that bad that it can't last 13 miles going all out?

there are too many variables like u mentioned, temp, wind, humidity that plays a factor into any kind of race

i'm pretty sure these cars run the track over and over and over again, until they get a desired time (mayb the best time they can manage)....if i'm not mistaken, GTR set its time on the course where there were wet spots

I think chasing the king is a fruitless endeavor at best, its a constant moving target. The manufacturers are always one upping each other, what's hot today will be surpassed by something else tomorrow. Nothing remains on the top for that long of a time.

Look at cars like the mighty Mclaren F1, the Veyron, the Zonda, then new cars like the ascari come out of no where. The GT-R is not even out yet and there is already talk about a new lexus beating it, before the lexus is out something else will be out to beat that.

Find a car that makes you happy and enjoy it, who cares if its the fastest, or absolute latest. That said, from an enthusiast stand point it is exciting to watch unfold.

Sick.. so glad they are actually producing this car. I said it a long time ago and I still believe that lexus is really going places. I also agree that this car will cost MUCH more than the GT-R. At least 100k IMO.

Couldn't it go the other way as well? They have more time to tune and tweak it.

Didn't that happen with the GT-R?
Originally it was running 7:5x, and then out of nowhere came 7:38.

That's what they do to run these times. They tweak the car to make on kamikaze run for the record.

I'd be impressed if they can verify that the car was running production tires and brake pads. I bet that they aren't judging by the times.

Not me! The technology and know how will trickle down into cheaper sports cars. Cars will keep getting faster with the technology that's out there. A lot of the technology is too expensive right now to make it down to a 40K Vette, but eventually it will.

maybe if they make this car, they can also design one that's got the same/similar performance but less "luxury" and slap a Toyota emblem on, and call it a Supra
