Just turned 250,000 miles

ON MY 98' ACCORD!! with V6 engine, bought new off dealer lot in 98'. Fully loaded, the problems? Trans went at 120,000 miles and just again at 240,000 miles, so, it's on it's 3rd trans. Alternator has been replaced twice, power steering pump replaced once at 235,000 miles, the battery 3 or 4 times, lock acuator twice & struts once. Timing belt done twice & will be done again at 300,000.
Car has original exhaust & radiator & radiator hoses. The engine gets oil/filter changes every 3,000 miles at the dealer & I add "Tufoil" each change. Motor burns no oil at all. Trans fluid is changed every 20,000 miles. Air filter replaced every 15,000 miles. All electrics work & has the original A/C from the factory. But come later this year I'm letting it go & buying my daughter a newer car. I think soon something COSTLY will break & not worth fixing.

Well I guess we have a pretty good idea how long the trannys last! Not very long life at all. Are they expensive to have rebuilt, comparatively speaking?
I came from diesel Mercedes where that mileage is expected! (250K+) I sure enjoy seeing these long-life posts.......

Nice to see that kinda mileage and still running strong. I believe the 98-00 Accord had widespread tranny problems so I'm not surprised to see that your on your 3rd tranny.

That's nice to hear. I also had a 98 Accord, and considered it one of my best Hondas ever. I 've owned 5 Accords, and rated the 1985 as my overall favorite .....

Nice... one day, I hope to have the self control (and luck) to keep a car to 250k miles.

good to hear. What would also be interesting for you to figure out is how much you have spent on the car new + all parts, and see how much it cost you per year.

That's what I'm keeping track of in my CL, and I'll total it up whenever I sell and move on.

^Wtf. It's paid for, why would he sell it? Keep it as a beater. Plus I don't think too many people would willingly buy a car with 250k miles on it.

OP congrats on the milestone, that's awesome! I hope my TL lasts that long and then some

OP, you can go 7500 miles between oil changes. No need to do it every 3K miles, that's all marketing BS, a waste of resources, and a waste of money.

I have a certain respect for people that keep new cars that long. "Choose once, choose wisely", right?

Glad to hear of your success with your Honda. I have a 1997 Accord that I bought new (4 cylinder, 5 speed manual) that just turned 275,000. Original engine, clutch, tranny and alternator. I change the oil every 7,500 using Mobil 1 and Honda filter. Engine burns no oil and has no sludge. Honda builds durable cars. Check out the Honda mile makers site for stories of even higher mileage cars.

when my mom bought a 08 accord v-6 in March 08 she gave her 98 accord v-6, bought new, with 79,000 miles to my daughter. The car is now neglected but has 110,000+miles. She gets the oil changed but it now gets parked on the street so keeping it clean is a rarity. The 08 has 20,000+miles.

Worried about what? These cars can go 300K+ miles without much more than routine maintenance.
