Part of the problem is you're 19 ... but I drank at 19 so I'm not gonna blast you for that.
You really shouldn't ever drink and drive but I too did some really stupid and dangerous shit in my youth.
.02 is one beer for a 170-lb man and then taking the breatholyzer test 15 minutes later.
Who hasn't had one beer somewhere and gone home?
Me thinks DUI in Jersey is .08 but for minors anything that registers is impaired.
Good luck, I feel for you. But if you really blew a .02, tough break. Next time wait an hour before going home after you stop drinking.

I'm not too sure how your licensing system works, but in Ontario 0.02 is okay is you have your full G class license. You're not allowed a drop with the G2 license. If you have similar, and have the non full license, you're screwed.
^^
it is because you are underage... anything above 0 = u r f'd in the a... yes i have drank when i was underage but i would never risk driving home...
when is your court date? my lawyer retired, but i think you should look for a lawyer that specializes in DUI's... be prepared to pay out the nose for lawyer and court...

i don't know if a good lawyer will try to get you an underage drinking and not some other traffic offense instead of the dui but i would try.
just like the signs say,"dui, you can't afford it"

Thankfully you didn't hurt anyone, and hopefully you will have learned from your mistake and take responsibility for your actions. That's what really matters IMHO.
We've all done stupid things (including myself).

Cant resist...YOUR IN BIG TROUBLE MISTER! Your not going to some county resort...but a federal "P.M.I.T.A." prison!
No...in all seriousness...you are in some fairly deep heat - but with a good attorney you can minimize the collateral damage. Spend the money on a good atty an listen to what he says to do AND DO IT. While you may lose your license for a while...you can minimize the amt of punitive decisions with a good atty.

you are under aged so there is a ZERO TOLERANCE policy in effect. Things that you personally get to look forward to are
1. suspension of driving privledges for at least 6 months
2. anal rape with no lube when it comes to insurance for the next 7 years
3. lost job oppertunities
4. AA classes
5. nice hefty fine + court fees
most likely will also get one of the following
community service
jail time
loss of current job if you are a driver
but then again Iran is the same country where their national leader repeatedly states they want to wipe another country off of the map (Israel).....
lets keep it civil guys. no need for this to get moved to R&P.
OP, althought it was just one beer, it was one too much.
I would speak to a lawyer and hopefully you can get off with community service and maybe a sealed record of this event. you DO NOT want this on your record.

Sorry to hear that man, yes I would hope they could be more lenient to you, but you have to understand these laws are only in effect because way to many douchebags before you drank 6+ beers and then got into car accidents killing other people.
Does it suck, yes, but understand these laws are in place to scare the people enough to deter them from drinking and driving especially kids under 21.

balsy posting here, hope they throw the book at you. No excuses, you're not even 21. Keep your law breaking to one at a time and at the very least be smart about it. How bout crashing at your buddies place next time?...
Dumb thing, dumb move. Shit happens. No one was hurt, it will cost you an a$$load in money and other things.
You might do OK if you are really remorseful and do not get a lawyer. Go with your parents and throw yourself at the mercy of the court. The judge may see this as a stand-up thing, and be a little lighter on the sentence. Have someone (or yourself) research your town judge and see if he/she is a hard ass or may just give you a stern punishment, but not break you.
And for those throwing stones, it's a glass house, you know. We all make mistakes. This is one he can recover from.

There but for the grace of god go I.
I really think the blood alcohol content test for drunken driving is a poor test to begin with. They should be using something more like a reaction speed test. BAC does a poor job of telling how impaired you really are.
OP I'd get a lawyer, just in case, and try to mitigate the damage. Fortunately, you are young and it is unlikely to have much impact on your future.

The heat this kid is getting is pretty out of control especially with what hew blew.
He wasn't driving impaired at all. I mean hell the headlight being out was a worse impairment than the alcohol he consumed.
It sucks that you're probably going to get hit with an unjust (imo) DUI because you were underage regardless of what you blew.
If he actually blew over the limit I would be blowing him some extreme shit too but it sounded like he was doing what tons of kids his age do and that is mess around with alcohol underage.
If you're going to drink and you're underage you need to make plans to stay at someones house or be able to stop drinking well before you drive home.

It sucks but hopefully he'll get probation considering it's the equivalent of 1 beer every 30 minutes.
Did you really only just have ONE beer? If you were going to be drinking anyways, might as well have gone all the way
j/k.. in reality it does suck you got caught with 1 beer under your belt.. I have a beer and drive home all the time. Or even better... wine and drive! lol...

I also don't know how you would research the "town" judge. Local superior courts rotate a number of judges through the various courts; traffic, domestic matters, criminal, etc. There's likely no way to tell which one you would get on your court date....and no way to tell what they are like even if you do. That's what your lawyer is for, they'll know the judges and their respective attitudes.
Get a lawyer, but make it a good one.

Get a lawyer! Your 19 driving with a headlight out after drinking, even though it's a .02 the system won't take it lightly on you.

If you are under 21 years old and are convicted for driving or boating with a BAC of .01% or higher, the following penalties apply:
* 30–90 day license suspension
* Possible combination of the minimum sentences above and select DUI Mandatory Fines and Penalties, depending on the situation
* 15–30 days mandatory community service
* Participation in alcohol education and highway safety programs at an Intoxicated Driver Resource Center
* If you are unlicensed and under 17 years of age at the time of the incident, you are subject to a 30–90 day delay in processing your driver license
