The it's time for new tires thread

Time for new tires.

I was looking on Discount Tire's site for available tires for my car and have it narrowed down to a few. Must be UHP All Seasons since I will need them for dry and wet and the want some sense of reassurance for the rare but bad winter roads we can sometimes get.

I was debating between the Michelin Pilot Sport AS3+ and the Pilot Sport AS4. I know I've had a pair of Pilot Sports in the past but don't remember which ones. I just remember they had good performance but the tires didn't last as long as I would have hoped.

Then I saw Goodyear Eagle Exhilarate and it supposedly is the top rated tire for my car on Tirerack. Apparently it is a smoother ride and quieter but the performance isn't as good as the Michelin's. Then again all of that is based on user reviews.

Anybody have reviews of any of these tires? What are yall's thoughts?

I'm assuming this is for the Merc?

We have the AS3+ on our Flex & they've been fantastic. We've had them in just about all climates/conditions. They handle the Houston monsoons really well, and gave us no problems in the light dusting of snow & 28* temps we went through in Flagstaff a couple years ago. We put the AS3+ on the Flex at 75k & they're just about due for replacement at 120k.
I was going to put them on my C, but got a great deal on Potenza RE980AS & was very happy with them as well. IIRC, I got about 35k out of the Potenzas, a huge improvement over the 16k that the OE Conti runflats lasted.

Co-worker has the AS3+ on her C300 & she loves them.

Yea for the MB.

I've also seen reviews that the AS3+ have a little better tread life than the AS4. Because of that, I've been leaning a bit towards the AS3+.

I've run Conti DWS tires in the past and really liked them. I've heard nothing but good things about the Pilot AS3's though. If you're not driving the car hard, get something that's quiet and comfortable rather than outright performance tires.

I'm looking at Michelin Pilot Sport AS4 for the Genesis.
Costco has them for $1000 in 245/45/19

Sounds like you had the Pilot Sport 4 summer tires before. My Pilot Sport 4s got to 30K miles at the wear bars; they now have a 20K mile warranty.
The Pilot Sport AS4 replaces the AS3 and is the top rated All Season UHP in Tire Rack's comparison tests. The Pilot Sport 4 AS has a 45K mile warranty.

Costco is supposedly putting Michelins on sale again late this month, so you can save a couple of hundred $ if you wait.

I would take the snow capability of certain all-seasons with a grain of salt. I had UHP all-seasons on my Accord and got caught out during the first light snowfall one year. It was bad. The car was effectively useless that day.

Those were Bridgestone Potenzas FWIW. Was a fine tire with good grip and wear otherwise, and I know snow is probably exceptionally rare in your area. I would consider something like the Conti DWS if you plan on using these tires in the snow.

But, the tire warranty is halved if you have staggered wheels/sizes.

I can't imagine the DFW area sees any appreciable amount of snow that wouldn't completely cripple and shut down the city anyway. Any all season should be more than fine.

I got stuck in El Paso once (work trip) because DFW was closed due to 1in of snow on the runway lol.

Landed at MSP in a snowstorm where they are getting 0.5" per hour with no issue.

I've had Conti DWS' and although they were fantastic for the first 5-10k miles, it went downhill quickly after that. I personally wouldn't get another pair of those.

Yea we don't see much, but when we do, it cripples the roadways because nobody knows how to drive in it or our resources to help winter weather road conditions pale in comparison to what the cities up north have.

Discount Tire has a 10% instant rebate on Michelin right now. I just had to get new tires on the CR-V and went with the Michelin Defender LTX.

I have the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S and Pilot Alpin PA4 on my ST. I absolutely love Michelin tires - can't go wrong there.

I'm going to be in need of new winter tires next season. How do you like the PA4 tires? Any comparison to others you've tried?

I currently run Blizzaks on my VW and XIce3's on my wife's Subaru. I find that the Blizzaks are much better in snow/ice but the XIce are better on open roads in the cold though the Blizzaks are certainly not bad.

I had the PA3 the first four winter seasons and the PA4 now for the past three winter seasons. They perform admirably in all conditions I've had here. No problem starting from a stop in deep snow, and they cruise smoothly on open roads. Traction has been awesome in winter. I even drove on them a bit this spring when I was working solely from home and not driving much at all (needed new summer tires and didn't want to bite the bullet yet). I highly recommend them.

Short sale on Michelin tires at Costco

Costco has a sale on Michelin tires from 11/20 (tomorrow) through 11/30.
The price is good as long as the tires are ordered between those dates; the tires can be installed after 11/30.

Normally, Costco has an annual sale for a couple of months on Michelins and Bridgestones; the annual sale on Michelin tires ended last month.

I went ahead and purchased the Pilot Sport A/S 3+ from Discount Tire, getting them installed next week.

I missed the 10% discount at checkout, but there is still a 10% mail in rebate.

Glad you went with the AS3+
Our Flex will likely be getting another set before the end of the year.

I'm fixing to get banned from one of the Tesla Facebook groups for suggesting that there is a special place in hell for people who replace their Model 3 Performance tires with All Seasons.

Curious to get your impressions on them, as we're nearly due for new tires on the Flex, and the AS3+ are top of the list currently.

Well, I just wasted 30 minutes at Discount Tire. They didn't have the fronts in, only the rears. Pretty annoying considering I ordered them a week ago and never even got a call from Discount to give me an update. Surely they have some sort of inventory audit process when they get new tires into shops, right?

The guy that helped me tried his best to help. Had the rears in the new AS4s so he offered me those, but they didn't have the fronts in those, and I didn't want a different front and rear. He also offered to get the missing tires in shop but didn't know when it would be. So I just got a refund and will continue looking at other current deals at places.

Also sucks that I had an appt for an alignment afterwards which of course will also have to be rescheduled.

That's a shame & they're a non-stocked tire it seems.
Had the same problem with my C, always took a couple days to get them in & it being a staggered setup & being 19s made it a delay.

Heard Costco had some Michelin deals coming at the end of the month, might be looking there for the Flex.

I think it's $60 to join. If you're ordering four tires you'll save almost $100 even if you subtract the membership cost.

Oh and I think it's definitely time for new tires.
Driving down 95 and felt a wobble.
