I need new tires; Suggestions please

Just bought a 2004 TL (79K miles) and the current tires are Cooper Zeon Sport A/S 235/45/ZR17. The road noise on these tires is unbearable. I would like suggestions on new tires. My priority is handling, nosie, then tread life. Thanks for your responses.

Pirelli PZero Nero All Season (not the same tire as the older, PZero Nero M+S).

The PZero Nero All Season scored tops in a recent comparative review at tirerack:

Also worthy of your consideration:
Bridgestone Potena RE960

Since #1 priority is handling, these have gotten good reviews:

Hankook Ventus V12

Kumho Ecsta SPT

Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport

Continental ExtremeContact DWS

Summer tires:
Michelin Pilot Sport PS2
Bridgestone Potenza RE050 (summer tire option on the TL)

All-seasons:
Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position 960 A/S
Yokohama Advan S4 (my TL has them now; my priority was low noise)
Michelin Pilot A/S

Check out Tire Rack's website-- you can select a tire and read comments selectable by car type (i.e. choose to read TL owner comments only).

Hey guys, I'm looking for a budget tire but I do want acceptable traction and tread wear. I saw General Exlaim UHP for 95 dollars. The ratings are pretty good. Nothing wrong with this one right?

arizonian silver edition plus

was $115 each now $127. 55K treadlife warranty, nice and quiet. I am consservative driver and when I had to replace the front set due to smacking a pothole (bubbled) they had 42K on them and still had 50% treadlife left. I have 2 new ones on the front and the rears were put on at 65K and now have 25K on them and about 75% treadlife left.

they should last me 80K+ miles

www.discounttire.com and you have to look them up for your car as the session will time out after a while so that is why I am not posting the link

For those needing tires, more information is needed:

1. Do you plan on buying summer only, an all season, or winter tire?

2. Will you have dedicated snow and summers?

3. What type of driving style do you have?

4. Price and other requirements, like noise, handling, etc...

See the above response. But for So-Cal, you can do with summer only tires. I almost went the General route but went with Goodyear Eagle F1 A/S-C All season, as I wanted wet and dry handling.

One more vote for Continental ExtremeContact DWS, just had four installed on my GS and I am in love with these tires. Road noise is almost non-existent.

Not a damn thing wrong with them if you don't drive in snow. Awesome straight-line wet traction/hydroplaning resistence.

They are not the sharpest handling tire, however, what you lose in sharp handling/cornering you gain in smooth ride quality and of course, great wet traction. That's not to say the handling isn't more than acceptable.

I have a set on my car right now and I don't see any reason not to buy them again.
