I'd be very surpised if shawn got an auto.
23K for the CLS probably means they had 3-4K "wiggle room" on the price for the BMW. I know ShawnS is good with his reseach, so he probably knows what the value of the 645Ci is... On a 60K car, there's always some wiggle room to give the buyer a decent trade in value.
It'll be interesting to see what the details are...

But I DID drive the new 3-Series. That part was real.
There was a 645Ci there, but the 78,000 dollar tag made me not so interested in it.
I love the 6-Series, but still say it’s priced about 20-Grand too high for what you get.

IMO:If I was to get a german daily driver I'd go with the 530XI for 3 reasons:
#1. I think the 5 series looks better than the new 3 series. (the 3 series is coming a long but the 5 series is better looking)
#2. BMW recently has had better build quality than Benz
#3. All-wheel drive. I admit it's not Subaru or Evo but you get some snow or ice on the roads you'll be thankful you have all-wheel drive.
I like the new Benz CLS class but I feel when Benz bought Dodge their quality went to hell. Benz used to be one of the best built cars on the road now it seems like their "okay"

shawn... why not get the e46 m3?
beyond popular disbelief... u can get a "deal" on a new Bimmer.
i got $2500 off msrp on my preordered M3.....
as they close out the model year, certain dealers are dropping their pants.
plus there is still speculation that the e46 will continue production for the 2006 model year, meaning they'll skip 2007 and make the new e90 M3 a 2008 or 2007.5 production...

u can option out a nicely equiped e46 for like 55k, might be a little more pricey than the c6but the quality is alot better, i heard that the first production year c6's are having lots of problems

I’m one of the few who likes the new Bangle styled cars.
I think the E46 is gonna look really dated the day the E90 starts getting popular on the roads and especially when the coupe comes out next year.
When I was down in Philly last year for one of those BMW promotional driving events they had the entire model lineup on hand.
The current E46 3-Series was parked right in the middle of a bunch of new 5, 6, 7, Z4 and X3 models.
It looked “dated” for sure.
I couldn’t see myself driving one for the next 3-4 years.
Also I don’t want a 6-Cylinder for my “toy” no matter how much power it makes. I want a V8.
That’s why I would wait for the E90 M3 or possibly a used 645.
But the Vette is still the front runner right now.

It’s still one HELL of a machine you get for around 50K.

The new M3 is a V8. I guess keeping up with the S4.
I like the new 5's much more than the priors. The prior looked too plain for my test. I wouldn't even look at the V6 5's because the wheels on them looked too small. The 530i's for the new style look badass and the 545i's are . Oh and I like the E90 sedan more than the E46. The E46 coupe will be tough to beat. Those with BMW 17s are dang sexy.

keep in mind that the e90 m3 will also be about $20k more than the e46....
it also takes ~$12-15k more over base for a "nicely equiped" BMW... you're looking at spending around $70k for the car when everything is said and done.... thats a different ball park... i'd be looking for a Porsche with that pricing...

The root of MBs reliability issues is their electronics, not the fit and finish of the vehicles.
