HPDE @ The Glen in the 992T TODAY, 9/25/23 Pics
5/28-30th, 3 days of classroom/on-track instruction. Got 9 sessions of time on the track at speed with instructors giving prompts in "communicators" affixed inside our helmets (ear/mouthpieces) so we could converse as the windows are down and it's pretty loud. Driving the "line" or at least trying to is pretty challenging at first but I got much better at it as time passed. Hearing my instructor "Dave" tell me "just brush the brake pedal" before entering Turn 10 when I'm traveling nearly 100 mph was scary enough at first but then one session later he said "don't brake, just slowly roll your hands to the left and stay on the throttle" was hard to do but the T just hunkers down and goes effortlessly around the corner. I did it that way every time afterwards and actually, turns 8-11 was where I could catch/leave behind others in the group. It was a lot of fun blowing past a GT350/ZR1 and a GT3RS being driven by a woman who by her own admission was "petrified." LOL. She was a very nice person and I'm looking forward to the next school to see her again.

No video. You're not allowed anything in the interior of the car that isn't permanently attached including the glovebox or frunk. I had to take out my eyeglasses, floor mats, owner's manuals, tire gauge, empty sunglass case etc., incredible how picayune the tech inspectors were (3/car). There are only 2 mounts they approve of and I can't recall the name right now so yeah, you're too busy driving to begin thinking about video. Best I can do is provide a link showing how the HPDE's go down. The pics I posted were from a professional photographer I purchased (I've got a bunch more).

Now wasn't that fun! Every since going to the track, street driving is totally uninteresting.
I like the track maps and elevation changes make it all the more interesting and enjoyable.
And the performance; who would have thought you can pull 1.3Gs on tires the car came equipped with.

Actually driving on the track has me slowed down on the streets/highways I regularly travel on as I'm just enjoying the car more than ever. The Glen is a fantastic track, I may try and hit VIR for another HPDE this Fall.

Watkins Glen one of my fav tracks, but I only know it from video games.
Would be cool to race on it someday, glad to see you did!

Some guy named "Randy." He had a hot set-up and offered our group the chance to buy his photos. I paid the $150 and voila, here we are. Good guy, I think he did a great job.

Second HPDE of the year and can't wait. According to the participant roster, I've been given the go-ahead to drive solo apparently. Everyone else in my group is "Green, novice" but I'm "Green (solo)." We shall see what that entails. Should be a great day, gotta get up to the track by 7:15 so I can get my car through final inspection (3 mins) and off we go on two days of thrills.

Today and tomorrow. I'm getting really adept and mostly consistent, with my runs. Sounds like they're going to move me up to solo tomorrow, I'll see how the test goes.

Welp, that ended with a whimper . . . went downtown last night to eat dinner, drove back to motel, opened the door and I heard a very slight pop. Yup, driver's window shattered AGAIN!! I can't roll the window down so that makes me ineligible to run day 2 of the HPDE (yes, PCA event Phil). I put my suitcase back in the car and drove home. I figure that cost me $150 (hotel), $385 (half of 2 day track insurance) and $300 (half of HPDE)= $870. SonofABitch.

The first time the tech said the factory over-tightened the fastening mechanisms to the window. The 992T only has one kind of glass available for it and standard glass won't fit. I have no idea why it happened this time, makes zero sense that you can't open your door and not expect the window to spider like this.

what terrible timing! The frustration of the glass was enough on its own, it didn’t need to cut into your track time. Sorry this happened to you again.
Dumb question, but do you push the glass to close your door? So many folks I see pushing the glass and that’s a big pet peeve of mine.
Different regions must have different rules, as I said, I saw folks windows up on track both days.

Never ever touch the glass or even the top-most piece of the door near the glass. I always use the handle. Niagara PCA requires windows down and yes, even if it's raining like it was yesterday.

Got some great feedback from my instructors! My last instructor, Matt, sent me a message from his father, Kevin, a senior HPDE instructor about how well I was driving. Kevin's comments first:

I couldn’t find where my eval was, only the one I submit for my instructor.
anyways, any advice on cleaning the rubber marks all over the car? I’m PPF and ceramic coated, bugs wipe off easily with wet sponge, tire marks was a nice 2 hour of scraping.
