Houston, we have an SLK...
... Hi yall,
... just scored a '99 Silver ext / Black / Red int SLK from my Father in Law...
... I pick it up in a few days, so pics are pending... I know....
... All of you here know I love to work on my own car, within reason... I have owned lots of different kinds of cars, but never a German one, so please forgive my crazy comments / questions while I adjust to having a new car around... my CLS will be going to my son this summer...

Thanks so very much again to everyone... I will have to wait until next weekend to pick her up due to some previous travel plans and the New Year... but in the mean time my Bro-N-Law will hopefully get her detailed for me so I will be one shiny fool rolling back to H-town... I really need to call him tomorrow about that...

Go to Slkworld.com and check it out.... they have some specific things that go wrong...mostly from not being maintained properly....
... I was not looking at the 32AMG, so I dont know the skinny on them...
... someone put it very well when they said a Mercedes is an investment...
most of the peeps state that for the r170 chassis, they spend about $500 to $1000 per year in maintenance costs... and those are at a dealership or specialty shops... I plan on working on my own as much as possible, like I have done with my Acura
Edmunds.com has a bunch of reviews... the vast majority of them are glowing!

Pick up is scheduled for next weekend... I will be turning this into the Merc SLK build / mod / detail / repair thread, so I will be updating with pics and info as I get them... stay tuned... and enjoy this learning process with me....

She's just a click over 100k... my FIL was the second owner... its been well maintained which I am super excited about... I cannot think of anything that really major she needs, mostly very minor cosmetic stuff... I drive about 10 to 15 k a year, so I think as a 3rd car she will fare pretty well!
