Help me choose the all around car to get?

Looking to get a mid /simi compact size 4-door sedan.

RRight now it has to be something, FUN, GREAT on GASoLINE, Performance, steering and Get-up and go.

Some of thing things I need to FOR SURE have on it as AUTO-tranny. Damn wife cannot drive a standard for shit.

Also sometimes I'll need to tow my 2 kids around along with the wife.

But here is the list of cars that I can choose from:

+2003 Jetta GLX VR6.

+2005 Subaru Legacy 2.5i (AWD)-but only 160 something HPs.

+2001 Volvo S40 , 160+hp..claims it gets great gas mileage/

+2004 or 2005 Mazda3s (S-series/edition)

+2002-2004 Mazda 6 (probably a 4-banger, but might find a 6 cyc).

+2004 Subaru Impreza WRX (w/ TURBOOooo).

=====================

Any idea which to choose?

If you recommend something different please suggest. Keep in mind my max spending limit is $18K. It does need to be an AutoMatic and 4dr sedan.

Thanks fellas.

How about the usual suspects? Honda Accord EX-L or Nissan Altima 2.5SL?

Well we test drive a 2.5 Altima and wife did not like it.

She did like the Mazda3s, but imho that 4-banger w/ auto was kind of sluggy. But still not bad for its kind of car.
As for the accord,,, egghh. have the TL already I already aware of its tranny issues (cough, cough TL)

I am just tossing more into the mix.

I think the WRX would be the best bet. Its not really a looker, but has good power, AWD and is big enough for the family.

Well the 3 would be the best on gas which is what you want. Hard to have great on gas and have good performance. For two kids the 6 might be better, but the 6cyl doesnt have the best gas milage. You have to make the decision how much you want to sacrific for great "get up and go."

Yea this is what looks like I will be pulling for. Since it does have the benefit of AWD and soon moving to the Denver, Colorado area which means SNOW... I think this would be a cool choice . Also will have some highway power if so dim-wit wants to roll on my ass or try to pass me up

the volvos arent as reliable and parts are hella expensive
mazda 3's are pretty nice, and i think someone here has a 6 that likes it
and the subaru is a reliale car also with good gas mileage

with the wrx the turbo may need maintainance and gets real expensive to replace
and the jetta, meh, another unreliable vw

That 2.5 legacy, I finally got to kick the tires on one, it's a neat car. The interior is quite nice, and the engine aint so bad.

Ok a few that you have 2005 for those are not going to be under $18K. (unless u getting used and like minimal options)

I have never driven the Subarus but I did try out that Mazda 3. It is pretty good. and pretty cheap if you dont care about options.

Why get the Jetta or Volvo? They are a bit older and dont know about Volvo but Jettas dont have clean slate.

Well I swooped it up. Man this fucker is quick!! It works like Vtec,,, rpms build up and then screams!! Wife was following me home w/ our TL. We did a little run. I was just shocked to say that my TL looked like it was standing still. never once did the TL stay up with me. I slowed down at about 105mph. WRX is a blast. Will just hope it is as dependable as my TL as been.

Thanks all for the recomendation of the WRX.
Great on gas BTW.
