Help!! 350Z or Sti

I need help!

So for the last 2 weeks everyday I change my mind between the two cars. If you had the choice which would you pick?
Keep in mind I dont need the added space of the sti at all. The 350Z would be like a 2005 which would mean it would be a lot easier financially on me which means $$ for mods. The sti would have to be new since 04/05's with about 30k miles sell for $25k as opposed to getting a new 07 Sti for about $31k which means the sti would be mostly stock. Just seems stupid to get the used since just $6k bumps you up to a new one. The Z seems to be the more sportier fun car the only thing that has me worried are the tristate winters. If I buy the Z, a beater for this immediate winter wont be an option. Hence why I look at the Sti. The Z is easier financially and where my heart is leaning towards but thinking about winter and any nasty weather commute in a Z is not a pretty picture however the Sti doesnt care what weather is outside. PLEASE I would like everyone's input because I cant simply make up my mind. I lost my TSX so I gotta hurry up and get a new car.

Thanks ahead of time for reading this long post and for your advice!

well at least the STi's have more room for practicality and are AWD so you can use it all year round.

As a Z owner, the Sti is more practical for year round driving. But the Z wins hands down as far as looks when you compare the two. You can drive the Z year round, it performs GREAT with a nice set of blizzaks. Traction is really good, just don't get the base model.

This statement is very opinionated, i do agree with you and think the Z looks better than the new STI, but the 04-05 STIs look way better than a Z does.

You can always save up for mods later.

Yes, it is very opinionated. Let me be more factual, one must be on CRACK if one thinks the STi (any year) looks better then the Z33.

If you have the money for the beater and don't need two extra room then the Z. If you need an all-weather rocket with 4 doors than the sti.You won't need mods on this one.Goodluck

I haven't driven either so I can't say. But personal prefernce, I like the STI more probably because it's a sporty sedan which is one of my favorite classes of cars, the other being sport wagons.

the 04-07 STI I think were just fine and looked pretty damn good. The current version with the small center grille a lot of peopel didn't like, but I did. As for the '08 version. Too bland I think and the front overhang is god awful.

I've never really been a fan of the newer WRX/STi's styling. The flared fenders dont go too well with the other lines of the car and I'm not a fan of the wing but it looks funny with the wing and without the wing.

On the other hand I've never ever been a fan of the Z's rear. But synth somehow pulls it off...

In the end I would choose the STi, and I don't even have to deal with snow on a regular basis. I like the interior more, and its already more powerful off the showroom floor.

Personally, I'd go with the STi. I don't think theres a car that give you more bang for the buck as far as performance (and I'm a turbo junky).

I would be most afraid of buying a used STi, who buys a car like that and doesn't drive it extremely hard. I would feel much more comfortable buying a used Z, I think they tend to attract a less agressive driver.

The only reason I'm not driving a STi is that if I owned one, my drivers license would have a life expectancy of about 3 weeks.

I like the looks of both cars.

STi is not a cheap car to mod, neither is the 350Z.

Don't forget the maintenance on the STi will be costly.

I own an mitsu evo IX special edition and I love the car to death compared to the TL I had, its handles great, its fast, I can take it up to the snow, it has plenty of room for four, including a decent size trunk... It was a lot cheaper to modify compared to the STi and maybe thats why I got an evo instead of an STi.

Yea u should consider the evo.
I do think the Z is nicer though, by far, which earns it major points in my book.

I'd buy the 07 sti (or wait for the 08 model), and then save money then mod the car. By modding later, you can actually test out the car first, and understand what mods you will need, rather than modding it right after you buy it. And reasons I prefer to the STi is because, simply, the STi is as pretty much as fast as a skyline gtr, while the gtr is way faster than a 350z, both cornering and straightline, so obviously STi is going to perform better than the 350z. Plus I think it's more practical to have more doors for easier access and AWD means great traction in any weather conditions. In terms of the appearance, the STi looks ok to me, but the 350z does look better. So, do you want a faster car, or a prettier car?

wtf? Why would you even compare to something that doesn't even exist in US and why 8 year old car, skyline gtr?

unless u're old?

z is a more "mature car" compaired to the sti... it just looks like a toy car (so does the evo).

test drive, read forums, research and make a decision. it's not ours to make =D

good luck with your choice, post pix when you get "it"

personally i'd buy the Z and use the stocks with snow tires and get some aftermarket wheels for when the weather is nice, since u said u will have money for mods if u go with the Z. i know why ppl love sti's and evo's and they can smoke the shit outta me any day but both cars still look like boxes on wheels. this is my worthless opinion lol.

the Z looks fantastic if u mod it correctly for looks.

Mod wise, the sti is hard to beat. Little money can get you lots of performance on that car.

it's just an observation I've noticed... pull up to any STi at a light and if you even rev your engine the slightest bit (with or without the intention to race)... or glance at the driver in any way or make some kind of eye contact, you know the guy's gonna race... 9 out of 10 times. They have the mentality that every light is a race... it's in their nature. Try it.

Whenever it happens, where I pull up next to a STi (or EVO), and for whatever reason I... (by accident) make eye contact with the driver... I immediately hold my cell. phone up pretending I'm text messaging to let the guy know, I AM NOT GOING TO RACE YOU... works everytime. (I don't pick battles where I know I'm NOT going to win).

NOT the case with Z drivers... the only time I get the same kind of drivers with the Z's are the ones that are mod'd.

my point is... with all the used cars out there... chances are, buying a STi... you gonna have a car that's (most likely) gone through more wear and tear. It's like marrying a girl that you know she's probably "been around the block a few times".
