That is crazy. The only thing I have been in that is twin turbo awd is my dad's RS7 and it is impressive already. I can't imagine a car making more power with less weight would be like. Just insane. Poor domestics you have killed had no idea what was coming.

I don't know if the original grammatical error or Andrew quoting it and not fixing it irked me more...

LIES! Vorsteiners for sure! Maybe even XXR!
Dude, I love your passion...if I had more space and money I'd probably be you. I literally am living my best life on a budget...
buy a car...enjoy it, fix it, make it my own...when I see another sexy object...sell 1 or 2 to get the next thing.
I guess it's good that I don't do that with women.

Even the Father Daughter (kids) thing...constantly teaching her my car shit...which of Daddy's cars is this...this one is DSG babe...this one
is stick...she sits on my lap and rows through the gears on the way to her daycare (in our neighborhood).

Anyway...I am thoroughly enjoying your threads and buys and sells. Keep it up.

4 is the sweet spot where I don't feel THAT stupid for having to insure
while also maintaining no car payments.

We have 4 between the 2 of us...kids are life. Even if they piss me off often.

Are you pulling it because the trans / motor had issues? Or simply just for upgrades?

If so .. my goodness. You have problems I dream of having.

I've had 2nd gear pop out issues for a few years now, and finally just couldn't take it anymore, it's become really obnoxious. I've been holding off on it, cause a trans rebuild is $10K+, but also, could never sell the car with it......and will never get my money back after doing it. So i finally sat myself down and said fuck it, just get it done.
  • 997GT2 (mainshaft + 1/2/3 gears) - 1st and 2nd are longer with this setup, so more useable
  • Drill it out for trans cooling system
  • GT2 slave cylinder
  • LSD - Most likely wavetrack (will be a must if i go to RWD, and willl be big benefit even if I stay AWD)
  • GT3 shift lever
  • Cup Car shift linkage
  • Whatever else needs to be addressed when I'm in there.

Since the motor and trans drop easily together, and the trans will be out for a few weeks, I decided that the cars 20 years old, has 75K miles, and i'm gonna go through the motor.
  • Pin coolant lines (I can't track the car without the coolant lines pinned, as they are notorious for failing on the track)
  • Replace all the rubber and various lines while the cars down
  • Open up the motor, make sure everything is healthy
  • Really debating doing a complete rebuild to 3.8L, but also trying to my sanity..........I can buy a new car for the cost the trans and minor motor work is going to cost without doing a complete rebuild.

Damn, that's unfortunate about the transmission. I always dream of having a 996T .. but, the moment something breaks you have a big pill to swallow on whether if you just repair it, or upgrade.

Transmission repair is a given .. For the engine, I'd just have them do a compression test & inspect easily accessible wear points like cam lobes. In the meantime, you can easily send an oil analysis to Black Stone Labs to see where you're at ... If everything comes back normal I'd leave it B.

Just my

it's not that far out of reach... and they are pretty durable if they are taken care of and kept up with... it's like any other car...

I would think sensors, smaller parts, maintenance, etc is do-able.

I'm more concerned with if you bought something a little higher on mileage and found out the engine needs a rebuild or got rod knock ... oof.

Couldn't imagine sourcing a lower mileage engine for a 996T ... can't imagine that being cheap.

I've read of very few cases where there was damage to these motors that wasn't a result of high boost.

The trans was most likely my fault. Car didn't like 3.5-5k rpm clutch dumps 😂

that's what a PPI is for... spend the money and make sure you are buying the right one... and not just the tire kicking one, have the tech scope the bores and make sure everything checks out... and just because it's lower miles doesn't necessarily mean it's better... these cars don't like to sit and actually drive better the more you drive it...

this picture is from last may from a member on rennlist... he is up to 633k miles now...he dailies the car in RI... puts snows on the winter... it has AWD...

Damn, that sounds like a lot of work but it seems like it will be worth it in the long run. With all you have done to the car already it has to still keep up with most the newer ones with the power you are pushing.

I do like your idea of making it a 3.8 though. I think you should

Got car back:

Trans is so awesome, shifts so smooth, longer gearing is a big help. Also, turn in is so much better with front diff removed!!! They cleared up some boost leaks, boost hits so hard now.

Had a run in with a new GT mustang with a whipple supercharger running on E85...guy lays down 750 rwhp apparently. Did 60-140....put 2 cars on him. He then found me on instagram and did a "holy fucking shit what just happened"

So you did decide to go 2WD then? Is the launch still as good? I bet it shifts amazing for sure with a fully rebuilt trans with better gearing to your power setup.

on the GT kill
