Goodbye S2000, Hello.....

I gave my S2000 to my friend to use and picked this up. I have the mileage to use on the lease, and he needs miles to use because he's all over the place. I needed something to use for the winter seasons. Wacha think?

2007 GTI - 6 Speed
Candy White/Anthracite Leather
Package 2
Premium Sound
18" Huff's
Aero Kit

Compared to the S2k, the clutch/shift action sucks ass, but I'm slowly getting used to it...It's pretty fun to drive though! I will be able to use the S2k as needed, of course, but the "gotta have it" factor of the S2k is out of my system at this point..

Still trying to decide what to do to it, but the first order of business is changing the summer tires to all season tires, then some lowering springs and sway bars (rear for sure, maybe front too). I heard someone out there (http://www.dieselgeek.com/Detail.bok?no=366) makes what is supposed to be the best short throw shifter for this car, and elminates a lot of the slop in the stock shifter.. Tints too..

I like dark colors too, but they are just a pain to keep clean. When I was looking for the car, I was considering the Grey as a first choice, silver as a second choice, and white as a last choice. I originally wanted only Package 2 and the 18's, I ended up getting a bunch of other options that I didn't want because there were so few '07 sticks left. My local dealer got it from another dealer 200 miles away, there was nothing locally available. I think it looks great in white, but it's a pain to keep clean too, but not as bad as the Black..oh well!

Congrats! Wilkommen zu die Volkswagen Klub!

Mine is literally the exact opposite. Black Magic Pearl, DSG, Package 0, 17", no body kit. But that is what comes with being a college student. Still an awesome car with plenty of standard options. I love conventional Manual trannies, but DSG is just so cool, I felt it was worth the extra $1,000+.

Some crappy cell phone images.

Shoofin, I have done very little to the car. All I have added are xenon color-matched fog lightbulbs, the open fog grills, and dark smoked bumper corner lights that replace those ugly orange ones. I believe they now have white corner lights. I like them because they blend in with the bumper during the day, and come on at night.

Good luck with the car

I usually see this gray GLI by my job and it looks really hot. If the Jetta had a little more rear seat area, I might have considered it over my Accord.

I liked your xB better

but in all seriousness I love the GTi, and it definitely looks the best in white. My dad is starting to think his passat wagon is boring, so i'm trying to get him into a 4-dr GTi, or maybe an A3. I wish I could've afforded one myself though.

what's wrong with the F20C?

Shoofin - sorry to see you leave the club man! You bought yours on the same day I bought mine, in the same color! That said, the GTi is one slick ride and that DSG transmission is AMAZING. The only downside to the DSG is the service it requires every 40k miles that can be a little pricey.

That 2.0T/DSG combo is tits. Congrats.

The new Civic Si doesn't do a lot for me .
I don't care for the GTI

Lack of real estate under the curve. (Great track motor though, thanks to a killer high cam.)

On the otherhand, the 2.0T:

Thats the first white Mk. 5 I've seen with that particular aero kit. Is it OEM or something? Looks REALLY white.

Nice pickup. Glad you got the 6MT instead of the DSG so far?

Yeah the VW/Audi 2.0T is an award-winning engine. There is potent power all over the place. In my CRXs or even my father's TSX, where I would have to shift (or where the AT would shift for me in the TSX) to 2nd going 20 MPH to avoid getting hit while merging. With this car, you could be cruising at 35 MPH in 6th gear and still get places without having to downshift. Of course you COULD shift down to 3rd or 4th and get places faster

I gots me a 6 speed, not DSG....Although if I don't get used to the clutch/shifter of this car soon, I may be wishing that I got the DSG, because this tranny is nowhere close to being as good as the S2k or other japanese manual trannies...

Yep, it's an OEM kit, I believe in VW speak, it's called a "Votex kit"..and yep, it's a 6 speed, but as I mentioned, I'm 50/50 in if I made a good choice getting the stick. I drove a DSG, and that's what convinced me to get the car. I tried test driving a 6 speed, but all the local dealers were out of them, only having DSG's to drive. I should have test drove the stick, I probably wouldn't be driving a 6 speed (or even this car, for the matter)..

It's great, but I've got back issues, and the seats didn't get along with me very well. I'm not exactly short and thin (5'10 - 210 ), but I feel the seats are designed for someone 5 inches shorter, and at least 50 lbs lighter. It's definately one of the best cars I've had, it just didn't work well for me as a daily driver. I almost always have things/people to carry with me and the 2 seater worked against me more often than in my favor.

Nice choice! I have a 2008 TT 2.0t/dsg being delivered in november. The dsg, 2.0t torque curve and low curb weight(2900lbs i the tts case) is an awesome combo for the fun to drive factor. Especially when you can get a reflash and pull 210hp/240lb ft at the wheels!

APR Stage 2 w/ an intake and exhaust gets closer to 255/300. At least for the GTI it does.

+1...I was looking into an A3 for my wife last year...Not familiar with audi turbo engines, I was convinced the 3.2 would be the better engine.
We ended up taking the 2.0T/DSG road. It just feels like the motor is more free-reving whereas the 3.2 isn't. I had forgotten the pleasures that could be had with the a small car, the right engine and a flawless transmission

My friend and I test drove a new DSG GTi on Thursday.

We had a little fun with the salesman. The dude went and got the car and parked next to my CLS, he got out, I popped the trunk, my friend and I got our motorcycle helmets out of the trunk. His jaw dropped.. He said "What's the helmets for?" Friend replies "You'll see"

I still really want to buy that car, but we're not allowed back at that dealer.

The leather seats' shape are absolutely fantastic. I really like and do not mind my cloth seats, but I just wish the US got the shape of the standard Euro seats, which are only available here as leather.
