Gone very far to the Dark Side - Cobra Kit
Ordered a Factory Five Mk-IV Cobra kit today. Also got a 414hp 32V Coyote & Tremec TKO600 heavy duty 5MT Crate units from Summit Racing.
The power package will push a 3650lb Mustang down the I/4 in 13.0 @ 111mph with 0-60 in 4.5. Should move a 2200lb car right along pure stock.
https://www.factoryfive.com
Hope to have it put together by spring if it shows up in Jan. The engine & transmission should be here next week. Will be running F245 X R315 tires.
Been away from building too long, got the urge & the devil made me do it.

Update
Was looking for a picture to help out a builder & noticed a lot of time has gone by. One of the guys suggested I post a before & after shot.
Before
After
Have 12,000 miles on the car since getting the license plate in March 2015 & its still as much fun as it was on day one. Been very reliable, goes out almost every day year round, think I did better then some new car manufacturers. Have added some parts & upgraded the tune since I built it, now at 488WHP on a DynoJet.
There is a penalty for the extra power. Have used up the original tires & the clutch needs to be upgraded.
New
12,000 miles.
Will replace the Nitto 555R with street legal Nitto NT01 DOT compliant road course tires. Staying at 315 in the back but increasing the fronts one size to 275.
New clutch with 687 - FT/LB capacity splined to match the TKO-600.
Brake pads will also be changed during the annual inspection, fluid & filter change. The only fail in 12,000 miles was a dead fuel pump that was replaced under the parts warranty.

Yeah, Hope to have it running late this summer. Last car I built took a summer of weekend with usually two people working on it. Will be on my own most of the time for this one.

This is probably a dumb question, but is it street legal? Because I'd love to cruise to work in that thing everday.
EDIT: Not that I could afford one. haha. Nice purchase Bear. I wonder how the 335is will run against it's new garage-mate.

Yes its street legal, the 335is would get stomped Should do 0-60 in 3 & 1/4 in 11.5/125mph, give or take a bit.
Stock 420hp Coyote engines (2014 Mustang GT) dyno about 390/395whp against the 335is 405whp but the Mk-IV is about 1000lbs lighter. Just god Conformation from Summit the engine trans is shipping from Ford Racing & have a delivery date of 1/18/14 from Factory Five for rest of the car. Only thing currently hanging is the rear axle but hop to get that solved this week. Tire Rack has shipped Kumho Ecsta XS 245X40X17 - 315X35X17 tires. Tires are very good track day & street tires. About as far as you can go & not move into track only rubber.

Not yet still gathering parts to build it. Body will not be here till January.
Will start construction 3rd week or so in January. Current project is getting the engine setup, flywheel, clutch disc & pressure plate, pilot bearing, throw out bearing, Throw out bearing operating fork & bell housing to close it all up. Alternator, then wiring for the computer.
This is pic not mine but is what it will look like when done & what the frame looks like. Have not yet picked a color but it comes in red gelcoat so its drivable when the body is mounted.

There are a few here, think one is an original 289. They meet on Sundays in the school parking lot across the street from my youngest daughters house.

Hard to believe the styling on those cars is as old as it is. Still a beautiful design.
Watch for the leg burns on the side pipes!
Can't wait to see the finished product.

If its OK with the mods will post follow-ups, but there will not be much till late January, shipping is scheduled for Jan 18th. Just some light engine work till the frame & body shell come in.

This is the color my wife is voting for. Was thinking of doing the stripes in Caddy Silver. About the only difference in mine is the heat shields on the pipes are solid instead of perforated & two roll bars instead of one.

Slight sidetrack. Gave my daughter a set of running boards for her Cayanne this Christmas. Cost $525 from Amazon with a DIY install. Porsche factory price was $1850 + install.

$1850 People actually pay that for running boards!?
You and your wife have great taste in colour, by the way. that red looks great, and I think will look better with the silver stripes.

^^^
Thanks for the kinds words on the color.
The outrageous parts charges are known as the BMW, MB, Audi & Porsche tax. All add-ons from the factories are way over priced. Some people don't care about how much things are but for the rest of us the aftermarket, if you are a DIY type, is a life & money saver.
The front tires came in & some small parts are being accumulated. Accessories & custom Moroso 8qt oil pan have been hung on the engine. Just a little of this & a little of that till the main kit shows up. Got the check-off conformation sheet on the chassis build specs so its on schedule for 1/18/14.

Got word that the chassis is shipping on Saturday. Goes on a semi-trailer with a bunch of other kits. Will get a delivery estimate when the load is set & the route planned. Its coming from the Cape Cod, Mass area so it might ride around on the truck for a while.
Got the work area pretty much set to go.
I will be meeting with a local group of builders on Saturday & hope to see some finished cars.

Met with some of the Triangle Area builders today. There are about 13 cars running within about 30 miles of Raleigh & AFAK none have built them with a top. It was 32 this morning so only 4 cars came & some of the rest of the guys drove their regular cars. Last month 10 cars where there for the coffee & sticky buns.

Tires mounted & balanced, great service no dings at Blacks Tire Service in Raleigh. A bit pricy but they have a guy who specializes in oversized tires & wheels along with Road Force equipment.
Wheels are replicas of the OEM Cobra Halibrand Magnesium ones that were on the 427 version of the Cobra. Getting close to the start as a bunch of drop shipped boxes have shown up & the car is on the way, hoping it escapes the newest snow up north

Car arrived 5PM 2/7/14 on the top row.
Used the pickup to bring 5 loads of boxes up the driveway. Bob from Stewart was a big help getting the chassis on the jack stands, will take a shot tomorrow.

Car is up on jack stands just finished Box 3A of the inventory....looks like only 25 boxes left to do.
Once the inventory is done the skin comes off along with any internal sheet metal down to the space frame. Then the running gear & power pack gets installed. Front suspension, rear suspension & engine/trans.
