Mclaren had a baby with a Ferrari 458. Ugly child!

Yea I'd say so too, but Lamborghini never really had a hypercar, so to speak. Nothing that competed with the enzo as well.
The LaFerrari is in a different league, with the P1 and huarya and agera R/hundra

I've never been a lambo person. Sure they're amazing to look at (most) but I'll take a ferrari any day of the week over a lambo. Ferrari is a drivers car. Lambo makes its point to show off more than be a drivers car. That may be changing a ltl as they are making better drivers car. But my point still stands. They're for different people.
Thought I'd take the discussion into here...In the LaFerrari thread, there is some discussion on how the new Ferrari exotic ranks in your books.
Personally, I still need to leave #1 for the McLaren F1...after that, my personal bias for the Pagani Zonda...and THEN, the LaFerrari. But, it is supremely close.
Your thoughts on the best modern-day supercars?

Lamborghini is also involved in LM racing and the the Super GT series.
If you're talking about modern-day the F1 for sure gets left behind. The F1 was definitely more revolutionary than all these cars I think. Coming from a time where I dunno what was the fastest car, but the F1 can probably keep close tabs on today's super cars. Wont be anything near the likelihoods of these cars coming out now though.
For that reason I dont think its one of the best today.
Huayra (did you see how quick it was on top gear's test track!) LaFerrari and P1 will be up there for sure.
BUT to me LaFerrari stands out for sure. I'm just not in love with the Huayra for some reason. Neither am I the P1.

I would never even compare the McLaren F1 to the LF. Apples and Oranges. IMO.
I love the F1 and I love the LF. It does not make any sense to me to say one is better than the other, simply because they are so vastly different in their time periods and technology.

The F1 was groundbreaking. Capable of being a daily driver, the driver's position, naturally aspirated V12 with a true 6-speed manual... was really the pinnacle of supercar performance before they primarily became status symbols. Not that people didn't buy supercars for the badge, but still. Almost everything that followed it for the next decade was still either barely an improvement or not nearly as capable.
My top 3 would probably be
1. McLaren
2. CGT
3. Aventador Roadster
might have to bump them all down a notch to make room for the LF at #1. I don't wanna give it that crown just yet. It remains unranked at the moment, just need to see and hear more of it first to confirm my decision.

On that note, have you driven either? I'd like to know because the only people who typically make such an argument are those who haven't. It's been a while, but I recall the Superleggera doing very well at what it was built to do on the track.
And I mean factory backed teams.

F1 is the pinnacle of auto racing. I didn't say anything at all about any other forms of racing; it was not required. But just because you asked, think of the Challenge Series (348/355/360/430/458), the 333SP, 550/575GT, 599XX, etc. You can't really say they've been absent from other types of racing.

I'm talking about factory supported teams. The only cars you mentioned that Ferrari stood behind was the 550/575 & 333SP. How long ago were those cars made again?
F1 may be the pinnacle, but several manufacturers have never had their hand in it even beyond Lamborghini, so what is this "state of affair" they're in?
not that it really matters but most Ferrari owners I've seen were old douchebags. Wouldn't even acknowledge you if you saw them in your own car.
gave a few thumbs up to Lambo owners, they either smiled or punched it, or both.
Much easier for me to imagine a guy stepping out of his Ferrari wearing a Ferrari jacket, shirt, watch, etc. than with a Lambo. Oddly enough, the two Lambo owners I personally know are actually down to earth.
Of course none of this has any bearing on my desire of the aforementioned cars.

And the entire American industry must be in a complete "state of affairs" as well from having almost no real Formula 1 experience. Ford's only linkage is because they own Cosworth who built the engines & then used Jaguar as a constructor.
Look at the development of all the Ferrari supercars - they've all been derived from their F1 knowledge and expertise, with even their F1 drivers having a close involvement with the development of the cars. They are at another level.
If these cars are so "derived" from Formula 1, how is it that Porsche always remains at the exact pace Ferrari does with no Formula 1 technology flowing down to their cars? They're just as fast, just as expensive, & most of the time, Porsches typically come out on top as the best driver's cars. Actually, most of the time, Porsches are so much more efficiently engineered to achieve their performance numbers; 470Bhp out of a 3.8-liter Boxer 6.
There is no other level Ferrari is at because of Formula 1. It's just motorsport engineering finding its way into road cars. Doesn't matter what racing series it came from.
If they were at another level, they wouldn't be needing to rig automotive tests to show their dominance; the "F1 derived tech" would speak for itself.
you think F1 is a marketing gimmick to sell cars?
ok, I don't have anything more to say on that topic
Porsche does hold their own for technology and advancement, and they also have an illustrious racing heritage. The 918 Spyder is incredible. Look I'm not saying that participation in F1 is the ONLY THING that makes an exotic car company. You are reading too far into it there. I said, IN MY OPINION, Ferrari's extreme involvement and history with F1 trumps Lambo, from that angle. It's already been mentioned that Ferrari's supercars have no equal from Lambo. What are Lambo's top cars over the years? Countach, Diablo, Murci, Aventador. The similar line on Ferrari's end is Testarossa, 550, 575, F12. Probably missed some there.

And yeah, in SOME ways, I think F1 is kinda a marketing gimmick. Racing programs are what car manufacturers make of them. Some are more successful in deriving a road car than others.
F1, LM, Super GT...DTM...all work for me.
