^ - I missed that boat with the Volvo purchase. The lowest figure I was offered was 5% - not worth it at that high of a rate. Especially when there wasn't any further incentive from the dealer to finance.

Are CTRs really sitting on dealer lots unsold? I thought they were just having a hard time producing enough to get to dealerships. We've had low rates for a long time but I'm not sure how much longer 0-1% car loans were going to last

RPhil, are you dead set on new?

I've been thinking about the CTR a lot lately - it's a solid and refined daily driver / race car for people who need 4 doors - I don't actually need 4 doors, but I can def use the space for hauling photo gear around.

Oh and, I would get it over a MKV Supra.

^ Don't/Didn't you have an RS7? What's the CTR going to be like after being used to that?

I'm sure they are different experiences. Speed isn't everything, how something is to drive as a whole is the experience. The S2k is a profoundly slow car but is a lot of fun to drive, even coming from something fast.

Although brief, comparing the S550 to my C300 was a very different experience.
The C was more fun, as you could push it harder, but the S was a rocket on a cloud.

Oh gosh the RS7 was a boat. I got tired of its size SO quickly - sure it was fast but I couldn't get over the heft. A smaller fast car is needed.

I still have my 09 335 which I love the dimensions - its sufficiently quick - and its stick so kinda fun - but its got 105k miles and yeah it needs to be replaced. I have to figure out what.

Another part of me wants daily driver to be Auto.

Well, I guess I am naive. The local CTR "sold" the next day (I think it never really was available) as well as one a state away. The third, also a state away but in the color I wanted, sent me video of it on the showroom floor and I exchanged emails. I told them I would be able to plan to come look at it and test drive this upcoming Saturday. This morning they sent me all of the details, and of course I asked if there were any dealer-added options and such. On top of a $4,193 Valpro 360 paint protection clear film package, it has a $15k market adjustment. I don't know why I thought I could get this one at sticker. Another waste of my time.

I'm starting to really get irked at this entire new car market. Maybe wanting a manual is just not a possible reality anymore.

I think my only realistic shot is a Mustang if I want something by the end of this year. I could make it work with only having two doors and a very limited backseat. A car seat can fit. With my wife's new work position, I will rarely if ever have to drop off/pick up the baby from daycare now.

I really like my Ford dealer I have been going to for the entire life of the ST. I think I am going to talk with someone about ordering the new 2024 Mustang GT Premium Fastback with the Performance Package. If I can do this at sticker and have the car built for me, it could work out.

I guess I could do the same and ask at VW or Honda dealers to build one. But last time I checked (for the R) the wait was over a year and I am concerned about shady dealer tactics. I think the Mustang would be the most straightforward, and I have loyalty with the dealer.

Yes. I keep my cars for a long time and I really want the full factory warranty. I could consider a CPO. But the slightly used prices are so close to new prices, it doesn't make much sense, other than getting around a market adjustment. But good luck finding a good deal.

No way you're getting the new Mustang at MSRP lol, not for several months at least.

Are you looking just locally or nationwide? There are a bunch of Golf R's posted at MSRP nationwide so you may need to travel a bit but it is possible to get.

I understand it's a new model year and refresh, but it's just a Mustang GT, after all.

Yes, I've looked across the country and contacted many dealers. Pennsylvania, Florida, Colorado, Massachusetts... just to name a few. Pretty much all of them are pre-sold, or the few ones that aren't are auctioned to the highest over-MSRP bidder.

Here's the response to my email saying thanks but no thanks on the CTR with a $15k market adjustment:

Thanks. We’ve been getting calls from all over the country. Somebody will pull the trigger. Have a good day.
The car world sucks. People are way too willing to part with their money when they don't have to.

I didn’t find out til just yesterday that it was an ex-Audi designer who designed the Stinger. I mean, I heard there was some designer exodus such as this to the Korean companies, but I didn’t know this actual fact. Explains a lot.

And this is precisely the reason why dealerships have such a bad rep.

Sucks you're having to deal with this, but it's not surprising. If you want a car at MSRP, it'll likely be a standard run of the mill car.

Doesn't matter, still going to be big money because it's flashy, fancy, new and that's what people want which will drive bigger money for them.

Honestly, if you want something NOW then you're going to have to sacrifice on one or more attributes to get it at a not hugely inflated price tag. There are so few CTR's, Golf R's, etc out there with lots of people looking for them and willing to pony up. I'm not advocating it's right but it's definitely happening.

Look into a FWD or auto or both. Shit, going EV is another pathway to avoid massive markups.

TBH, if i were to get a car that is practical, fun, reasonably priced without markup - I would probably end up with a Hyundai at sub $30k.

Just canceled the Corolla order as it seems there is no way i am getting 1 any time soon after 6 months of waiting. The impulse buying phase has passed.

They might as well add "Our Lunch and Dinner for the day - $500"

There are so many other cars i would rather have for $60k than a Civic.

2024 Mustang build is up: https://shop.ford.com/configure/must...oboostfastback

What do you guys think of my build? I think this will take care of everything. I wish I could get the Recaro seats and still have a heated seat option like my ST has. And I am not sure if getting the MagneRide Damping System is worth the cost.

https://shop.ford.com/configure/must...bid=2006511331

My local dealer contacted me today, as we discussed my intentions a couple of weeks back. The '24 can be ordered now. So I am going to send him my build and he will set it all up for me and let me know how it looks.

Definitely get the GT, you'd get the difference back in lower depreciation alone.

If I were you, I'd hold out for exactly what you want. Don't settle for a Mustang when you really want a Golf R or CTR. Give it time, with interest rates sky high, the prices for these cars will come down later this year.

Unless you're paying cash, interest rates are dumb.

I decided to hold off on the Mustang. It was getting pricey and I was still unsure about the coupe sports car as full DD.

Tried getting somewhere with the Integra Type S (posted in auto news section) but not too confident a dealer will offer one at sticker. We'll see.

I started thinking if I am really getting nowhere and if I had to give up the manual, what would I consider? So I started looking at lightly used Audi S5 Sportbacks. 2019+ with around 30-40k miles are around $40k. Love the look, get the hatch, and a nice V6T. Is there anything I should look out for?

https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/b...-26aa363b09b6/

https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/1...-a23207c8185d/

Of course, I could always fall back on electric and get something like a M3P, so that may be my last ditch effort.

I'm still planning on keeping the ST for now unless I can really find something that I truly want.

M340i is a good one, as is a C43. No hatch but it's a great car. Maybe a mk7.5 Golf R? Focus RS? The RS has a super rough ride and the interior is basically the same as what you have now but thought I'd throw it out there haha.

Give the Tesla a try and see if you like it but make sure you have a plan to charge at home if you're going that route. If you don't have that, I strongly recommend not getting an EV.

I didn't know until this week that the same dude who designed the Vehicross designed the R35 GTR! And look at the design cues he transferred over to the GTR!!

Did you guys know??

Found out about it from this video - which was great:

^ I did not know that

FWIW, Tom Peters, lead designer of the Pontiac Aztek also designed Corvettes and Camaro's during his 35+ years at GM.
