Rented a 2014 Focus SE Hatch 5 door over the weekend to drive up the Santa Barbara.
The car is very nice. Great MPG. i was averaging 33MPG with some traffic and other typical rental car driving habits (the best MPG in ANY car i have driven in my life) For comparison purposes, i was only averaging 27 in my GF's Civic to vegas.
But it probably has one of the worst auto tranny i have driven also. The car feels like it has 10 gears and every time it changes gear there is a 2 second delay from the revving to the actual acceleration. It always wants to change up the higher gear, even at initial acceleration from stop. So it feels like 1st - 3rd and oops too slow and back to 1st.
^ The Fiesta hatch I had as a rental had a bit of a clunky transmission. I chalked it up to being a rental with 35k miles on it. Only really noticeable at low (parking lot) speeds. Otherwise, it wasn't a bad little car.

Rental deals can often be found on "premium," "luxury" and sports cars.
Searching Kayak, I came across SixT and rented a 2015 BMW 328i for $35 a day for a long-distance court appearance (car rental + gas is less expensive than charging the client for IRS-permitted mileage on one's own car for 200 miles or more) a month ago.
The 8-speed auto on the BMW was really pretty responsive and well-matched to the turbo 4 even when not in Sport setting, although the car (close to base model) didn't seem very refined or lux otherwise.

I personally would not rent a BMW.
When i rent a car, i usually like to rent something "different" from what i usually drive. Where is the closest SixT location in LA?
I test drove both FiST and FoST on Sunday just for fun. Both cars were pretty fun to drive. Very quiet inside which was a surprise. The shifter felt weird for both cars. Loved the interior and size of FoST, hated them for FiST. The new FoST actually looks pretty good from the outside. FoST definitely felt heavier, nicer, and faster than FiST.
The one thing I can't get over on both cars was the seating position. I felt like a bus driver. I'm sure this is amplified for me since my seats sit very low in the car even in a stock form. The seats themselves were fine.
Overall, I was impressed by both cars! The cars are a bargain for what you get. I would have picked up a FoST over my 2010 Mazdaspeed3 even though the MS3 sounded and felt a lot more manly.
In the end though.. I couldn't wait to get back into my BRZ and drive away like an idiot.
i just checked the Sixt at LAX for fun for this weekend. They are smoking some good shit here at LAX. I just reserved an ML with SixT for someone at ATL for $45 a day last week.
Yeah JS, I felt like the seating position of the FiST was very upright as well. Typical hatchback feel. Not a bad thing, just different. I've said it a few times before, at the time if I didn't get my BRZ I would have a FiST. The BRZ just fits me better.

I think it's LAX taxes too. I got the $35/day price on the A3 and 328i through Kayak.com, which listed SixT's Beverly Hills location.

Nice! Did you move the seat down at all? When I sat in an FR-S for the first time at the auto show this year, I felt like I was literally sitting on the ground. It was cool though. Would be nice to drive one. So yeah, I can imagine the seating position feels much higher!
It looks like it was the ST3 with the full leather Recaro seats?
I wish you could drive my modded ST to get a feel for how much power you can get out of it. When I flash the car back to stock when going to the dealer I am amazed at how much slower it feels. And I think you'd like the feel of my short shifter + shifter plate combo which reduces the throw 45% in the configuration I have it in, plus the aluminum shifter bushings. The throws are short and the gates give a great feel. Very solid.

and yes, re: 5x108, wheel choices suck.
It's definitely not a track-focused car like both of you guys have. It does make a great daily driver though that is capable on the track.
As far as 5x108, there are some good choices out there but I'm glad I went with my Team Dynamics which are from the UK where they've had that bolt pattern for much longer.
I love SixT! I use them every time I fly into PHX which is nearly every month. For the price of an economy car elsewhere I get a brand new Chrysler 300s with the HEMI. And their customer service is leaps and bounds better than the other budget rental car places out there. I just wish they had more locations. I just had to book a car for Denver through Budget because SixT doesn't have a location there. I did notice the prices are much higher (pun intended) in Denver than Phoenix for some reason.

^^^^Comes to Phoenix "nearly every month," never calls...

To be fair, I felt the same when I test drove the new WRX. haha I was like wait... this is as low as it gets!? haha

I did! I was still sitting very high. haha
My Mazdaspeed3 was modded and tuned. Sold my Cobb Accessport a couple months before I sold my car, so I know that feeling. The stock car felt super sluggish. haha I had this very hard motor mount and shifter bushings with the short throw plate kit, that made the shifting so much better.
In the end, the FoST made me much more happy than the FiST.
