Heh, David Hasselhoff's Personal Knight Rider KITT up for sale...

http://www.julienslive.com/view-auct...F%3Fkey%3DKITT

Tidbits from here: http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1...up-for-auction

There aren't many TV-show cars we get all soft in the knees for, but KITT is one of them. This KITT isn't one of the original cars used in filming, but it does have a David Hasselhoff pedigree.

Built by a fan, Jennifer Catano, who then gave the car to Hasselhoff, this KITT is as authentic and true to the TV show Knight Rider car as you're going to get (and much better than those KITT Mustang abominations from the show's 2000s reboot)--and it's starting at just $15,000. Estimated sale price is between $30,000 and $50,000.

So what makes this car so special? It includes the yoke-style steering wheel, scissor doors, dynamic ride height, and exterior lighting you expect of a true KITT car. A custom digital dash and console complete the driver's eye look, and a custom soundboard with over 4,000 sound clips from the show add a layer of talking-KITT realism.

Sadly, the Turbo Boost function isn't included in this homage car.

Since when did KITT have scissor doors and shaved door handles?

I was curious to see what 1M coupes go for now ... And surprisingly it's more than what they cost new.

Within 200 miles of me, 1Ms with 10-15k miles are all in the high $50K to low $60K range.

Is this a true modern collectible?

Whether it will stand the test of time surely remains to be seen, but it's definitely being treated that way in the market.

Wait...we're talking about the E82 1M and NOT the E26 M1, right?

If so, I take back about the maintenance thing. I don't know much about what entails the upkeep of the E82.

That too. I jumped ahead in 5 min increments to see if there was any actual driving involved instead of just watching people talk.

Well, who knows...maybe you were talking about an M1 missing the wheels, doors, and engine. That's probably $60K.

I would assume 1M's price will come down dramtically when M2 comes out.

Because technically M2 is the replacement for 1M.

I noticed how confusing this sounds as i am typing these. fucking BMW.

Why did BMW name it 1M instead of M1?

Because the original "M1" was the very first M-car and they didn't want to screw with the provenance or history of the name.

Well, the E26 M1 is essentially a halo car...and, BMW had no 1-Series back then.

Cue the reboot where they introduced the 1-Series and setting the lower numbers to be their smaller/affordable cars...higher the number, the more the $$$ and luxury...

But, too late...they already had made an "M1". So, to not confuse the M-badged 1-Series, and without sullying the legendary E26, the M-badged 1-Series is the "1M".

Yeah. It's not ideal...but, not much BMW can do.

Is there really going to be an M2? Because there's already an M235i.

oh yah i forgot about that M1. Ok so i am sure BMW already knew there was a 2 series coming when they built the 1M. Shouldn't they just named it M2 instead of 1M?

Yes there is a M2 coming. think of M235i is 235i M-sport with BMW Performance Kit that add 20hp. 335i Msport + that kit = M335i if BMW is stupid enough to make another model like that.

Flipster's thread got me wondering. I did 16,300 miles on my Focus in its first year while working from home and having no life (full-time in school too). My normal year is closer to 20-21k (still working from home). I think I have to drive too GD much to do anything.

I know there are a couple of sales guys that are road warriors but anyone else with a normal job do more than 20K a year?
