General Car Talk Discussion Thread
So, I was lurking on the FRS/BRZ forum for awhile. A lot of people from CA were buying their BRZ from this Subaru dealer in Colorado. Just contacted that dealer and received the quote about $2800 off the MSRP. Damn.
The sales guy is getting the freight cost right now, and it's expected to be around 6-800 bucks.
Interesting.

They quoted $650 for freight cost. Sweet.
The only thing is that I have to sell my car privately.. I hate it..
Oh, and the biggest hurdle is to convince my wife.
I'll taking my wife out to the local dealership this Saturday to have her check it out. She wants me to have 3 more cars for her to check out. Something like 1 under $40k 2 under $50k.
Everyone I know who has the FRS bought it for one reason only:
It costs about the same as a Camry, and it looks cool.
I drove one 2 months ago though.. driving expierence is amazing.
As said earlier the 435i is overpriced.. 46k base, M-sport adds 3k, leather 1.5k, lighting package 2k, your already at $54,000. You could get a slightly used E9x m3 for the same price..

This video explains it very well on why I want this car after driving it:

anyways, I think my new flavor of the month is the Fiesta ST. I was under the impression that the Focus ST had a mechanical LSD while the Fiesta didn't... I was otherwise very impressed when I first heard about the FiST.
When it comes time to actually buy a car it'll probably be something completely different.

Anyway, these are some of the examples of the look I want on the car (rims rpf1 sbc 17x9/slight drop/rear diffuser):

Yeah it looks great in 18/19s for sure.
White BRZs look pretty sweet, huh?
I scheduled a test drive at local Carmax for tonight. Heard Carmax guys let people test drive it for much longer than the regular car dealers.

You should just tell your wife you want a M3, but since its out of budget currently you should get a car that matches it closely thats in budget.
If that doesnt work, pick the car around 40k as a Chevy SS, she'll run away from that i'm sure after seeing the inside haha
Came to the carmax. Just finished driving a BRZ. It's freaking awesome. It feels like a boxster or cayman. Super fun to drive. Went onto freeway too and it wasn't bad at all in terms of road noise. A little bit louder than my ms3.
Just spotted this very low mileage 2011 M3 here.. it's right around my budget.. it's an automatic but gonna test drive it now..

Nice, I just heard to stay away from Puente Hills, when I was looking into it haha.

Stay far far away from Puente Hills....Get the M3 though. Or a 335i.

BRZ was just fantastic, it drives like a Porsche Boxster or Cayman. And probably because this BRZ had +10k miles on it, but it did feel better than a brand new FRS that I drove last weekend. The car noticeably shifted much smoother.
M3 was a complete beast. Found out that M3 is on hold by someone else til this weekend.
Carmax offered $15,000 for my MS3. Guess it's valid for a full week. So, I'll have some time to think it through. I didn't care to take out the intake/racepipe/short shifter/rims/other craps. But I did tell them, I'll be swapping out the Advan rims with the stockies tomorrow. So, that's pretty good I guess. I honestly was expecting a little more than $16,000 for it, but it's not too bad.
Will probably take a look at slightly used 335i/M3s over the weekend. I did find another used 2011 M3 convertible with 6MT and not many options at this local BMW dealership. Just made an appointment to take a look at it tomorrow. It has like 24k miles and priced at $41k. Seems pretty low for a convertible.
But really, I can see myself going with a BRZ in the end. It's just what I was looking for. Affordable/6MT/Light/RWD/God ton of aftermarket support. A modern Miata or S2K.

Plus, Subaru is running some nice special on financing at the moment. I think $27k for a loaded 2014 BRZ Limited is a great price for what I get.
Anyway, Happy Holidays!
Yes, I did! It looks pretty sweet. BRZ/FRS/MX5 Club are super similar in terms of performance numbers/driving feel/price.
I just like the look of BRZ more. That's probably the only thing.
But I should email a local Mazda dealer and see what they offer on one of those. Didn't really bother to think about it til now.

This is what I got. Meh.
If you still own your Mazda there is a $1000 Mazda Loyalty rebate , besides my quote below.

M3 Convertible is nice, but because of the weight it isn't really that much faster then a 335i coupe.
IMO if your looking at MX-5's, the "Club" trim is the way to go. I saw a Red Club w/ the stock black wheels and it looked amazing.
