G35c vs. 350z Which is the king

No I'm not trading my cls. I did a search and couldn't find a thread dedicated to this comparison. I'm thinking in a year or so I'll get one of the two as a weekend cruiser (cls = comfortable daily drive to work )

Here are my thoughts:

350z:
+ Great handling, power
+ Said to have excellent cluch, with smooth shifts
- Harsh ride
- Weak sound system

G35c
+ Nice navi
+ Good power/comfort
+ Softer ride
- Not as powerful as z
- Interior (possibly) not worth it for money

But those are the only ideas I have. I know a bunch of members have z's and G35c's, and I would love to hear your input:

- How do the two compare powerwise?
- How are the rides different (between the Touring z and the G35c with premium package)
- If you could go back and do it again, which would you choose

Thanks

G35c. Looks better (IMO), Infiniti service, more space. I was looking at both in December and almost jumped the gun on a loaded G35c. The 350z is cool, but I need a sunroof and would have been a 2nd car and not a daily driver.

Both are great cars and Nissan has done a great job with them.

I saw a lowered, black, navi, 6spd G35Coupe last night rolling down the road and holy crap that thing was SEXY. Too bad they're a little over-priced a little under-interiored, and no AWD option yet. Maybe for MY05 they will fix the interior and add AWD, but I think the price will just get worse.

g35c's look a lil overweight to me and they ride higher...roofline is higher...z looks better especially when modded. this poll has been done before here btw. most of these idiots like the g35c

if you want a faster rear wheel drive cl get the g.

....many more aftermarket options with the z. i think the g is nice but stock it has more body roll around turns more than the z...softer suspension..and feels too 'dressy' when i'm in it...doesn't feel sports carish enough if that makes sense. honestly i wish i had both cars but if i had to choose again, id get the z.

hah thats an awesome analogy...ill remember that

But how do the two car's compare performance-wise? I've heard the z got 5.6 0-60 sprint, and the g35c AUTO got 6.2 0-60. Is the g35c 6mt about the same as the z?

Also is the handling significantly better on the z? I ask because a lot of reviews say that though the handling is good, the harsh ride isnt worth it (though it was on the track model, which is why im asking how good the ride is in the touring)

Question: Which Z are you looking at?

The reason I ask is the G comes with the Brembo brake pkg that is only available with that Z on the track model. The track model costs roughly the same as the G. Plus their are ops that are ava. on the G that aren't on the Z. One being that under body spoiler.

Track: 34,740 no ops
G35:33,040 no ops

do the math....the G35 all the way.

All I know is I love the way my G handles. Acceleration, cornering... I've never driven nor been in a Z, but if it is indeed a quicker and better handling car, that's pretty awesome.

I love cornering in my car. And the butt-planting torque is pretty nice too.

Im looking at a loaded touring for the z, or a loaded g35c. Cost isnt an issue, since both loaded are below $40k.

I would love brembos, but i heard that they dont make that much of a difference (i.e. dont feel too different) unless you are repeatedly braking and driving like on a track

The Brembos are amazing. They help make the G one of the best braking cars on the road. They're wonderful.

And they look badass too.

6mt times for both are low 14s, high 13s... All driver dependent.

Ok so that was my question...is it totally driver dependent? Given the SLIGHT hp increase the z has, and the lower weight, id think the z would come out on top for the most part.

the g does have all the wonderful creature comforts though...and slightly better weight distribution

wel...to clarify...the brembos don't stop you any faster than the regular brakes. they just don't suffer from fade as much under track conditions. i doubt you'd notice a difference if you don't plan on tracking the car. they do look badass tho.

the g weighs a bit more and has a more restrictive intake so it will be slower than the z, but not by much. i've seen stock z's hit 13.6...never seen a g hit 13's but i'll take scrib's word for it. on average i'd say there's a .2-.3 difference between the two in the 1/4.

i have a touring model. all z's models have the same suspension unless you're talking about diff model years...the 04 z has a much more bearable suspension..less bounce than the 03's. personally i never found it to be a problem but some are more sensitive than others. the firm ride keeps the car from plowing in the turns.

ok thats what i was looking for. I guess all that is left is to drive the two and see which one feels better.

Another question: did you guys order yours from Japan, or just pick one up from the dealership?

Also wtf is liquid aluminum paint? I saw its a $1100 option, and looks ok, but anything special about it?

1100 is alot for paint but it looks cool. its VERY metallic...very striking color when the sun hits it. that color is only available on the touring model. my z came from dealer stock. had to import it from a dealer in NY to get the stuff i wanted on it but you don't have to pre-order them anymore.

i end up looking like a z fanboy alot but its honestly because i genuinely love the car. g owners seem happy too so you really can't go wrong with either. i've seen some people trade their g for a z and some z owners trade their z for the g. diff folks diff strokes. the cars have diff personalities.

you haven't done you homework on the z. the z is up there with the e46 m3 in terms of handling...you have no clue.

yeah but I meant that the z is only good for racing of any sort...not a practical comfortable car at all IMO...the G35 you can have just about every acpect of a z give or take a little hear and there but be comfortable and shit

practicality i'll give you. the z is not uncomfortable tho. it has plenty of creature comforts...everything my CLS had and more in terms of luxo features (touring). the concept of a g being everything a z is and more is innacurate. i suggest you drive both and reassess that comment.

I have to totally disagree. I use my Z as a daily driver. It's totally useful around town and very comfortable IMO. Interior isn't the best, but is very functional and overall attractive IMO. Door handles are subjective, but I get compliments on them actually. The ride is a little rough, but not too bad, and the excellent handling that the car has more than makes up for it. Back seats? Not everyone needs them. If you really need back seats, get a 4-door IMO.

I also sometimes hate that I sound like a fanboy here too, but I really do love the Z. It's by far the best and most fun to drive car I have ever owned. I've had it a year already, and I still get excited every time I get behind the wheel.

The G35c is also an awesome car, but a different purpose than the Z. I'd also love a G35c, but if I had to do it again, I'd get the Z.

I have driven both plenty of times and I'm not trying to start an arguement here but IMO I don't feel comfortable in the Z period. It's not the seats or lack of luxo items or anything...I just don't feel comfortable in it. The speedo and guage cluster is microscopic. The dash pocket (no navi) is 100% garbadge that tilts to either side when tryin to close and gets jammed. And for a two seater it's just not my cup of tea. And I didn't say the g is everything the z is and more...READ AGAIN...I said "the G35 you can have just about every acpect of a z give or take a little hear and there but be comfortable and shit. GIVE OR TAKE A LITTLE HEAR AND THERE.

Oh hay guys, C5 corvette vs SRT-4, but cost isn't an issue because both are below $50k.

the whole Z vs G35c thing is dumb, IMHO. the G35C is the better car. btw, both handle the same, despite the Z being stiffer. remember the best motoring video where the G&Z(both equipped with the same shoes) ran against the E46M3? well if you paid any attention, and looked at the individual lap times posted at the end of the video, you'll see that the Z and G, both turned in IDENTICAL lap times, during their time trial! folks the 7horsepower difference exists only in your mind. The G is a refined Z, with a back seat. I have driven both, and would never touch a Z over a G coupe. for one thing, we are comparing an infiniti(upscale nissan) to a Nissan. Infiniti wins hands down. Its just like the 255horse maxima GLE vs Infiniti I35. both really the same car, but one would always choose the I, if given a choice of both.

I'll choose the G35 coupe because I get

-infiniti service(try telling your nissan service department your car has a rattle, see if they'll give a sh!t)

-more interior room

-better seats

-softer suspension, for some comfort

-back seat

-trunk space
