Fusion Fog Light Retrofit

I finally completed my HID retrofit for the fogs in my 2005 Tundra. ...after 10 months of slow progress .

I figured I would share here so people considering an HID upgrade can realize you don't have to drop $$$ on projectors to do an upgrade correctly and keep from blinding people. I used fog light projectors from the Ford Fusion, and mounted them inside the fog light assembly of the Tundra. It is my understanding that these projectors are shared with a few other F-L-M cars as well, but I got mine from a member on HID Planet for $89.

Here is the projector assembly. The bracket is held on by two screws on each side of the projector. I removed the bracket, drilled my fog assemblies, and screwed the projector in to mount them. The lens is 1.75" IIRC.

The top picture is the OEM halogens, and the bottom is Morimoto 3Five 5000k. The left side has been aligned to match the right side after the pic. I need to add a bracket so they stay in place better.

I got the inspiration from Carbon Legend and his RL.

At first I thought I had made a mistake by getting the Morimoto 5000k which have slightly less lumens than the 4300k. The pictures above show very little difference in light output between OEM halogens and HID IMO. However, I think the problem was them being aimed too high and not being aligned. After pointing them down a little and matching the cutoff, I think I found the performance I was originally hoping for.

Forgive my ignorance here but are you using your fogs as headlights then or just projector fogs and stock halogen main beams?

It was hard for me to accept halogen performance after driving the RL. I don't have the funds or free time to build a bi-xenon headlight setup, so I figured the next best thing was to have fog lights that could perform as well as HID headlights in conjunction with quality aftermarket halogen bulbs.

I did make my fog light switch independent of the low beams, and I only used the fogs for the picture to illustrate their performance. I still use my headlights.

Ahh, I see. Good job, crazy how a little projector can take the place of your massive Tundra headlights
