First one to race a New 2002 Lexus SC 430

...and I beat him by a 1/2 car length to 70 MPH, and was still pulling when we lifted!

I was cruising south on the 55 frwy in Orange County, exited at Dreyer heading east, and I see this new Lexus ahead of me.
So, I speed up to get a closer look at it. The guy's got the top down, so I pull along his right side and talk to him at the light.
I compliment him (the wheels are cool), and ask him, "How much?", He replies, "$62,000". WOW! "How much horsepower?" - he says, "300". I said, "Let's see how fast it is." He shrugs and nods, "OK,- Maybe" The light turns green while I'm still talking to him, he floors it...So, it's on! - he get's a 1/2 car length jump on me from the line, but I'm staying right with him until she get into VTEC territory, and now I'm gaining and passing. We both lifted at 70 and his front bumper was even with my door! We both smiled and gave each other a "Thumbs up". As we where slowing, I yelled, "I only have 260 HP", he replies, "Yeah, but my car's a lot heavier". ...True, But it still felt GOOD!!!

I looked up the specs on the car:
4.3 V-8, 300 HP, 325 ft/lbs torque, 3,840 lbs. gross weight - that's ONLY 300 lbs heavier that the TYPE S!!!

Wow this post is kinda surprising to me esp when most mags say 0-60 mph for this car is 6.1-6.2 secs and the manufacturer says 5.9 seconds with a 14.4 or so 1/4 mile time..good run though and thanks for the post

I think all of the CL numers are underrated in the car mags. Many members have shown that the CL is quite a bit faster than the numbers in the mags. They have to post slower numbers so the CL isn't faster than the BMW. I think the true numbers for a stock CL are probably about 6.3 and 14.8.

Damn. the SC 430 is a beautiful car...I feel like trading my SC in for the new one...

but the CL-S is a damn good car too. I think it looks more sporty than the SC...and at less than half the price I'd say screw the Lex.

My uncle just got a SC 430 and the car is sweet. It is also supposed to be alot faster than out car.
I havent had a chance to drive the SC yet but when I do we see if the Type S can hang.

The SC is so pretty though.....

Drive one though, steering is absolutely numb, body roll galore and the tranny is pure slush, no button shift.

man, thats a tough one to swallow .. do you have a stock type S, or is it modded? Even tho the SC430 is heavier, it has a killer engine and boasts some real impressive numbers in the reviews. MT compared the SC against the Jag XK8 (i think that was the model), and it almost outperformed it in all but one or two tests.

But regardless, its a good thought to fall asleep to .. that I dont have to wimp out if an SC pulls next to me tomorrow on my way home from work. If not outrun him, atleast give him a run for his 63K !

I am quite sure CL-S numbers are underrated. Here in Canada, our website says the 0-100km (i.e. 0-63mph) is 7.1s. That can't be. I feel the car is way faster than that

Nice race...

btw I get consistent 0-60 6.6sec and 15.1 qtr mile times with the Gtech. Yes I am stock and wanted a good base line before doing mods.

My Car isn't stock!
I have the "Ram Air" CAI with a K&N drop-in filter, a Jet Performance PCM mod, and removed the premuffler, w/ 18"
235/40's on Niche wheels (same weight as stock, but MUCH better traction) NO Headers, yet! I estimate 287 HP (flywheel).
I have run a 6.12sec 0-60 w/ G-tech!

I actually raced him twice; but the first time, I got the jump on him from a rolling start and I beat him by over a car length to the next light. So, I thought that he wasn't really "on it". But, then while chatting to him at that light, he floored it ahead of me - that was the original post story.
PS - I DID NOT even have the VSA OFF!
